By stripping the film down to its barest components Refn bypassed a lot of the genre’s trappings and revealed the characters for what they truly are: little boys and girls with the most childish of aspirations. You aren't kidding when you say the likes of Pacman and Mayweather have a good thing going. They make like $50mil a fight. Compared that to the top MMA fighters and it's not even close.

Yeah the top paid MMA fighters, and they aren't even necessarily the best just the top draws, probably don't clear half a million per fight even with the win bonus.
