maybe some have already been mentioned or added since I last looked but here goes:
Dancer in the Dark / Insomnia (original Norwegian) / American Beauty / Roadkill and other films by Canadian director Bruce McDonald / Sexy Beast by the brilliant Jonathan Glazer / Mitt Liv Som Hund / Repo Man / Midnight Cowboy / Rushmore / Cabaret /
there are some of my faves I didn’t find on here, thanks for the great site!
these lists are wonderful to read, so many good leads to follow. Currently some of my favourites are:
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle – Haruki Murakami
East of Eden – John Steinbeck
Great Apes – Will Self
The Sea, The Sea – Iris Murdoch
A Fringe of Leaves – Patrick White
Theft – Peter Carey
Lost Man’s River – Peter Matthiessen
Swimming to Cambodia – Spalding Gray
but I would say ANYTHING by Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Brautigan, Margaret Atwood are books I can come back to again and again – these authors can make me both laugh and think – very important.
Currently I am reading “Polis, polis, potatismos!” – Sjöwall and Wahlöö. I’m a sucker for crime fiction, and theirs is some of the best.
Sexy Beast and Trainspotting are films that maintain a tension and suggestion of violence that keeps me on edge regardless of what actually transpires – in every scene where Begbie (Trainspotting) or Dan (Sexy Beast) appear, there is tension and the threat of a violent act (often fulfilled). In my opinion, these are two of cinemas most menacing characters.
a marathon of Adam Sandler films, Dances with Wolves, Forrest Gump and those Beethoven films (a St Bernard, Charles Grodin…aaauuuurggggh). There aren’t ANY drugs that could make me sit through that line-up.
the term Caucasian to denote race (or commonly used to mean white skinned people) is out of date and not backed up by genome studies. Strictly speaking you are referring to people originating from the Mount Caucasus region of Europe.
don’t know the first but Psycho certainly had a memorable bathroom scene (ok, known as the Shower Scene) – sex and horror! who can forget the blood going down the drainhole of the tub? after that, I think sex was safer in bed!
Well Shotzi, as long as you’re not really INTO wrestling we may still stand a chance…I don’t remember Sting but I’m sad to admit Junkyard Dog and The Killer Bees spring to mind

by ‘adding’ I don’t mean necessarily for viewing but for reviewing, comments and as a record in the auteurs

and The Last Waltz (Scorcerse) – even have a music category where the music video work of, just for example, Jonze and Glazer could be acknowledged?

hilarious show, like todays version of SOAP (which was too far ahead of it’s time to be fully appreciated, I think)

“Dances with Wolves” – I felt sooooo manipulated by this score or maybe I just hate the movie THAT much?

for this I really need something old…maybe it’s about (perceived) simpler times, values, wholesomeness? or people just dressed better?
The Philadelphia Story
Harvey
Funny Face
Duck Soup (any Marx Bros will do the trick)
then there’s just plain silly, guaranteed to give good laughs: Caddyshack, The Man With Two Brains, Flying High
but when you just want to wallow in it: Wings of Desire, The Sea Inside, Watership Down

It all depends what mood you are in – for each end of my emotional spectrum I would choose ‘Low’ and ‘Ziggy…’
