saw this for the first time tonight and v much enjoyed it...I'd always wondered what happened to Jean-Marc Barr, now I recognise him from other Trier films...very funny ;))
Bill Murray can do no wrong. A thoughtful and beautiful film. Thank you Sofia, for your work.
tense and a real eye-opener into complex racial issues - well, certainly it was for this white middle class girl in the 80s. great soundtrack
not wholly satisfying despite some wonderful performances - are Macy and Reilly two of the most underrated actors in Hollywood? great soundtrack.
yes there is something so annoying and 'off' about Thewlis' character but watched again it is compelling and truthful
Hunter and Keitel in such unexpected roles. Beautiful to watch although the tension and build up to tragedy is uncomfortably tangible.
'The Kingdom' and 'Dancer in the Dark' are 2 of my favourites of ANY director
that's quite a career
this has so many perfect moments and really penetrates the ups and downs of a relationship, without being soppy
love it, so funny
great soundtrack...Carlyle as Begbie has to be one of the most menacing thugs on screen, not unlike Ben Kingsley's Logan in Sexy Beast.
oh the beautiful dresses (cheongsam), the styling is superb. I love the slow, languorous quality - although the friend I saw this film with fell asleep!

one of the films that I saw at a young age, that although I would not have understood much of the existential matters discussed within, still had a lasting impact. it was so powerful. the beautiful stark landscapes, Max Von Sydow in his prime, the eternal questions....all mean that I will keep coming back to this film.
wow, 1977 - I wonder what I would think if I was seeing it for the first time now. blown away I'm sure. as I was in the mid 80's when I first saw it. time for another airing, I think....
"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." The idea and sound of HAL still chills me to the bone.
