Mind-blowing!
Exudes a serenity and warmth that reminds one of the fleeting nature of human lives
bold in its minimalism and a riveting performance by Michelle Williams
A slow-burn of a movie with terrific acting and jaw-dropping cinematography
A fantastic lead performance and a rapturous ending... never a dull moment
Stylish and exotic, this little film is a perfect example of the craftsmanship of Old Hollywood. Dietrich has never looked more intoxicating.
BIG disappointment...... I will have to watch it a second time to to re-evaluate my opinion of the movie.
I have never seen two more unprofessional scientists in my life than Elsa and Clive. From their eating in the lab, to their not wearing any protective equipment, to their impulsive and entirely irrational research decisions.... event their "rock star" wardrobes at corporate meetings! That said, the logic behind the creation of Dren is throughly solid. Science may not be there yet, but it won't be soon before we start seeing those developments in the news. The film is an effective thriller and presents some original ideas. I particularly liked the way Elsa turns from nurturing to sadistic by the end of the movie. And Dren is by turns repulsive and endearing.
the bodily fluids!!!!!!
Watch it for the astonishing turn by Jaye Davidson, alluring, enigmatic, and vulnerable. The rest of the movie suffers from slow pacing and a split personality disorder, unsure whether of being a political thriller or a psychological drama.
The whole film revolves around the dark core that is Stanley Tucci's murdering rapist. Apart from him and Susan Sarandon's comedic relief, the rest feels forced, in particular the necrophiliac kiss scene at the end.
An elegant and inspired take on the making of _Nosferatu_, mixing dark humor with elements of horror. Willem Dafoe injects a dose of tortured humanity to his characterization of the undead Max Schreck.
I was pleasantly surprised by the nuances in the story and characters. Adam Sandler was great as the embittered comedian with a terminal disease. He manages to be clingy, aloof, bitter, cute, and funny.
Hugely enjoyable adventure treat, solid performances and stunning special effects.
Manages to feel fresh without overhauling the whole vampire genre. The child actors are fantastic and yet I couldn't help thinking that the plot was too flimsy.
Good movie with a great cast and thrilling set pieces though a little too predictable. Oh and Kim Basinger won an Oscar for this? Seriously?
A deeply human story set against great turmoil in the Middle East. Moving and uplifting without taking itself too seriously.
Riotous fun, stellar performances, explosive dialogue, and innovative storytelling are just a few of the reasons why this movie has become a cultural cornerstone.
Deeply unsettling in its simplicity and the refusal to give any easy answers as to the disappearance of the three women.
Slow but very rewarding. The ending is earth-shattering...
It took a second viewing for me to really appreciate this movie. Its simplicity can be deceiving at first, but there is so much unspoken tension between all three characters and the plot unravels in a fresh and novel way until the unexpected ending. Crisp cinematography and a jazzy score also complement the story well.
Beautiful cinematography and the brilliant use of Carol's apartment to mirror her mental state, plus some truly startling scenes, will keep you glued to the screen.
Interesting study of immigrants' lives in the US and the countries they leave behind. Great cinematography as well.
Answers none of the questions surrounding Kaspar Hauser's background, and that's how it should remain, a mystery.
There are some gorgeous and arresting images but not enough substance to merit a feature-length film. It is also completely lacking in the human element. At 30 mins. it would have been great.
A loving homage to B-movies from the 50's and a standout performance by Martin Landau.
eerily beautiful...haunting.
Incisive yet touching, this film is both a commentary on extremist political views and male camaraderie. It also features a standout performance by the young Thomas Turgoose.
Vibrant colors and the wild, ravenous jungle are the best assets of this disjointed movie. It's tiresome until the characters find themselves lost and struggling to survive in the Amazon. Some of the great memorable sequences also occur in the second half, such as the dead snake writhing and covered in ants.
absolutely fascinating in its simplicity...
