like what you posted on the forum for The Mars Volta's Omar Rodríguez-López Directorial Debut film, didn't know about that at all.

I saw Unforgiven as anti-Western because it seemed like it's goal was to de-idealize the protagonist and portray him as just a born killer. The whole premise of the contract though, revenge by prostitutes against a man who cut one of their faces, came across to me as very pulpy and cliche. I didn't mind the end of LOTR because I know there was even more at the end of the novels that they cut out. I'm glad they gave the characters a final resolution instead of just dropping it after the ring was gone. I know the eagle was explained in the book but I forget the explanation. I suppose the movie is going to please fans of the original novels more than people who never read them.

Regarding Lord Of The Rings: I think if I saw it for the first time now instead of back when it came out I wouldn't place it quite as high. But, I think it's the movie that's used CGI more seamlessly than any other movie. Regarding Unforgiven, I felt the characterization was a bit hackneyed. It was trying to be an anti-western western, but it's story was more cliche than the western cliches it was trying to contradict. Besides, you give five stars to Evil Dead II and V For Vendetta. I think you can forgive me for Lord Of The Rings.

Regarding The Squid And The Whale: I felt the main character was very similar to the main character in Greenberg which I enjoyed. But whereas the character in Greenberg could be read as a sensitive, well intentioned person who just has very poor social skills, the character in Squid and the Whale was just a pompous entitled jerk, and there wasn't any more depth to his character than that. Regarding The Town: There were plenty of flaws in the movie, but I saw it as a very good popcorn action flick with some good emotional stories. Notice I also ranked Scott Pilgrim and Machete very high. I will forgive plot holes occasionally if the film is entertaining.
