My Imperssion on film(s). It’s in german but what the hell, learn it.
And after all is said and done what remains is a memory…
….a fragmented emotion…

…almost like a capsule of thought….

…cracked open and leaking…..

…forever to be lost….

…in time.

The day after I follow you on here, you rate Last Boyscout 5/5, confirming that I made a very good choice. ;]
Indeed you did. :) You seem to be a little bit more versed with action cinema, so correct me if i'm wrong but Last Boy Scout almost felt like it predated almost every 90s american action film with it's attitude. You know, breaking down our old heroes, revealing the weakness in their macho behavior or even making then into full fletched caricatures (Last Action Hero for example).
I think you're on to something there. Shane Black really infused Bruce Willis' character with a world-weary cynicism, like he'd seen it all before and knew that there really wasn't a place in our society for 'all American heroes' (no matter how much the movies glorify them). 'Last Boy Scout' is so edgy and ahead of the curve that it's often easy for me to forget that it came out in 1991 and therefore predates/anticipates a hell of a lot of Hollywood action movies.
I still have yet to see the films by Wang Bing (where should I start?), but I almost wanted to include an Edward Yang or Jia Zhangke film. Cheers, Nick.
I have only seen Paper Airplane and Crime & Punishment so far. Crime & Punishment was quite a surreal piece on an institution in China that we western people don't get that much insight in. Zhao always strikes a nice balance between being detached and observational in his tone and close to his subject (especially Paper Airplane). So yeah, its going good so far. I'm very excited to watch Petition next, since I've heard it's supposed to be his most accomplished work.
