Matthew Goode is my upstairs neighbor in London. His dog Maggie came to my flat this morning again.
This is a story about perpetrators and victims. The former often do not realise the impact of what they have done, while the latter never forget. A very good suspense. Again quite shocking too.
This is not a gay film for me! I found this film very personal for me as it was about how the stories are created by filmmakers. Usually they are inspired by their own experiences. In fact, facts are more serious and horrendous than fiction, which this film is trying to say. Facsinating!
Oh year! What would people think if I say this is the best film by Kubrick for me? I found William's internal journey over one night was amazing and only someone like Kubrick, experienced and talented, could realise such a subtle psychological drama in an exciting style.
Total disaster of the long-awaited return of Harmony Korine.
I saw this theatre production in London a few years ago, which won the Olivier Award of the best play of the year. The original film was more shocking than the stage version. Triumph of Danish dogma film. It cuts your throat.
The title is Irreversible but the story goes backwards to the beginning of the relationship. The longest rape scene in the cinema history is so real and hard to watch but the audience are rescued when the film ends with the happiest moment of the couple. Clever narrative structure.
The last tour de force by Kinji Fukasaku. I found the film a great satire of contemporary Japanese society in crisis. Chiaki Kuriyama became Tarantino's favorite since this film, who appeared in Kill Bill as you know. I met Kitano at interview for his other film and also Tatsuya Fujiwara separately in London. Kitano was sweet. Tatsuya was isolated at a party but seducing women with his back!
Film "Western" is an art itself and this one is the ultimate. Dramatic soundtrack got to my heart forever!
Zvyagintsev's second film The Banishment was screened in competition in Cannes 2007 and it was rather disappointing to everyone. The tragic story of Return was moving and I loved the black and white photos introduced at the end of the film.
