say what you want about 8 1/2 but i like this version better
this is my fav. haneke film so far. he seems to be the only filmmaker that can get away with glacial pacing (providing the viewer is filling the void with some kind of intellectual curiosity - and there's plenty to be curious about in this one). pretty hardcore film stuff going on here.
to really appreciate this film even more than what it already is on screen, you should know the background of how it was made. herzog is one of those relentless filmmakers that ride the line between genius and madness and this film is no exception.
just lend yourself to it and it's like a dream. probably my favorite film by kubrick because of its tenacious depth and attention to detail which always seems to yield something new the next time you watch it.
