There is a French DVD by Re:Voir that has that short on it. http://revoirvideo.blogspot.com/2011/01/dvd-gunvor-nelson-departures.html
Wyler & Co churn out a dense & broodingly patient work anchored around 2 central performances. Confidently effective with its limited locals & cast, the dark material precipitates a movement that would soon upend American cinema. The vibrant technicolor & liberal studio lighting are particularly interesting as they often betray the surprisingly gloomy subject matter. Quite the intriguing watch, esp w/ the crisp blu.
Can't think of a time I've had more fun with a Bergman. It's quite schizophrenic in tone, but therein lies the pleasure. A talent solidifying
...and the most peculiar.
Where can i see this? Any links welcome
The work operates like a drunken hazed night that's as interesting as it is eluding in the waking hours. Ultimately an interesting and bizarre outing that desperately, and deservedly, requires an adequate transfer and ensuing distribution.
I'll take this over indiana jones any day
Would greatly appreciate pm'd links
This song Niccoli, the director, plays in his apartment early on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDLqCUuhyLg
This is why I watch movies.
The rare sea western. Rare as the golden prawn
Eric Farr's performance undermines a complete appreciation of this work.
Suffers until its eventual death (well before the closing bell) from poor direction
"Heads we get married, tails we go to lunch." :)
Despite the deplorable copy I have, this remains an arresting work. I can only imagine how affecting this would be if it received a proper restoration and subsequent distribution.
A forerunner within the scifi genre. Inspiration to many.
I like your shadow very much!
unusual performance from h.silva
The new blu transfer looks exquisitely delicious! http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews46/the_10th_victim.htm Might be time for a resurgence
In memoriam film criticism
and what's up with brook's eyebrows?
Though successful at times the score encroaches upon egregious territory at other points. The same can be said of the script. Ultimately, this is a hollow exercise with laudable visual composition.
Drive is nothing but trash masquerading as arthouse cool--poorly written and pretentiously directed with clumsy characters, flimsy plot, excessive graphic violence, and an overall style which is mind-numbing.
Happening. Tides of emotion, thought, sensation. To be. Who needs an atomic bomb or plastic cups? No one. / Consummate ending: "In memoriam small movies" -brilliant!
new still
An affair better remembered
An accomplished genre filmmaker to be included amongst the best of 'em.
An understated and assured gem that's not to be missed. Interestingly enough, the Hays Office turned down the script, but Leisen continued with production anyway. Good thing he did, because the preview cut struck a resonance with the censors and they passed it.
Savagery and discipline clash in this grand, but peculiar work from western aficionado Anthony Mann. Victor Mature proves he can handle lead billing.
One of America's finest screenwriters.
One hell of a sturdy supporting man!
Savvy work with technical composition as fine as its cracklin' script
