Will you be seeing Transformers 2? almost 3 years ago

YES! Especially if it goes to the drive-in. Actually, it definitely is… and that is the only way. And, unless something better is on the competing screen, then YES!!!
Also, I haven’t seen the first one (Orson Welles’ TRANSFORMERS) in a while. But, it will be good to compare Welles’s and Bay’s approaches.

I got a link directly from the Criterion page. Thus, I didn’t know this was going to the front page competition for HOMICIDE threads. I honestly thought it was not going to this board. It’s my first post. I didn’t know. Please find space to forgive me in your hearts.
But, if I could turn back time (like they do in HOMICIDE), then I would certainly have gone here first.

Guys, I started a thread about this, too. If you are disatisfied with this one, please go over there.

I really like both and I haven’t decided where I’ll talk about Life on the Streets.

it’s like Einstein on the Beach in cinematic form. I think they discuss that. But yeah. It’s diesel.

Hey, when I posted this… was I committing DOUBLE HOMICIDE?!?!

Also, is Richard Belzer in this movie?

Anyway, don’t post on this thread and keep the other at the top. I just needed to add that to THIS thread because it wouldn’t make sense on the other.

OH MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
I loved REDBELT. I love fighting and backflips. It’s the one drawback to THROUGH THE OLIVE TREES.

I have not Spanish Prisoner because it isn’t here (I don’t know, they don’t have THE LONELY GUY either!!!). When I move, it will surely be available there.

Also, the Verdict is in my tops of movies. This is exactly my type of movie if that exists. I think if Paul Newman ultimately fighted James Mason (and not Charlotte Rampling (or just both at once)), then my favorite film of all time we would have had.

ALSO, I told someone that this was coming and they weren’t thrilled because they don’t like Joe Mantegna. !!!!!!!!!

Best director of the 21st century... Wong Kar-Wai?? almost 3 years ago

Yes, I was going to say… no Dardenne, no Weerasethakul, no Breillat, no Kiarostami.

Anyway, that said, I find the Dardenne’s are borrrrrrrrrrring. People like them, though.
Also, no Nimoy?

Best news ever! almost 3 years ago

Man! Is the RAI print of Nostalghia new? I really LOVE that movie.
It’s a shame they won’t also show his movie about his friendship with Parajanov. I mean, not that much of a shame considering the other sweet dishes.

Movies That Should Be In the Criterion Collection almost 3 years ago

a collection of earlier Manoel de Oliveira on Eclipse would be FUN!

You guys like Garrel.

Soy Cuba already has a solid release.

World on Wires for sure would be fun.

Celine and Julie go boating (Rivette) YES!

Does the TENANT have a good release???

everyone always talks about THE GAME, too. BUT, I haven’t seen it.
MORE Kiarostami… though isn’t there some MIRAMAX controversy about this???

Troubled by Fascist & Communist Influences on Cinema? almost 3 years ago

I think my ability to separate these things with time is a help.

I wasn’t born when many of these films came out (save some Klimov but I’m sure that may be seen as subversive, too).

The flipside could be some of the more despairing views (in my opinion) of Criterion films like Chasing Amy.

I just got the XALA book at a book sale.

Yes, my first Sembene was NOT Xala though. Something else.
Was Ceddo the MASSIVE film?

I think Black Girl was my first. Anyway, I wish I had more time to spend on here.

Poltergeist is totally diesel! No shame in that.

I thought Fat Girl was a horror film. No movie provided more nightmares.

Man, I totally LOVED Blackboards. Maybe I just watched it under sweeeet conditions.

Certified Copy will be great.

OH YES! I mean, I love all of this, but Kiarostami is just a bomb.
One Problem, Two Solutions… to Ten
Taste of Cherry is in contention for my favorite of all time (sorry Ebert!). I mean… what LIFE!! I have not yet watched Life… BUT, get this, I have owned a rough copy (on which I spent $$$$$$), for about 2-3 years. I will, when the time is right.

Majidi just makes me feel GOOD. I don’t think I have ever finished a Majidi film, honestly, but I have started five. They are perfect Saturday evening films for me. Just the grain, the innocence (maybe not the right word) of it all just takes me away. I can’t articulate it, but if you have seen it, you know.

I have only seen like TWO Panahi movies.

Nun va Goldoon is such a sick film. Kandahar was such a let down. How about that The School that Gets Blown Away? Also, we should be talking about this stuff now, right? (and Nigerian films!)
I think the Cow is especially relevant and its Shah-ed out banning because it was seen as too hickish.
Party with me!!!!

Wow. This thread is addicting. I have about 55 pages to go.

I also hope this pushes COLOSSAL YOUTH to be released!
And, I see a lot of movies that I haven’t seen that I can’t wait to check out just because of your treatments!

god… Kandahar? Man, that was a rough movie.

Looking forward to Song of Sparrows for sure.
NO IDEA about Shirin. Curious, though.

And yes… again… PERSPEPOLIS. Not an IRANIAN movie…
A French movie… from France. and a little bit of the USA.

What do you of Michael Moore's upcoming documentary about Wall Street? almost 3 years ago

I think Michael Moore directing something, or being taken as an authority on something, about which I am concerned is somewhat distressing for multiple reasons.
I can’t imagine what the purpose of this might be… is it blame? to actually highlight issues? to highlight blame?

I’m not trying to be negative, I just have serious doubts about any of his output.
