Hoffman seems foolish, stubborn, and cruel to Amy in that scene. Note after all the carnage he barely pats her head and instead goes off with Niles. His thirst for violence and machismo causes his already weak relationship with his wife fall apart.

You aren't pretentious about film but are a grander fan of it than many know-it-alls on this site. You like Sylvain Chomet and Takaski Miike. And you gave Milk 5 stars. You're great!
