Star Trek Into Darkness

For some reason, stringing along disasters in quick succession—and often simultaneously—liberates Abrams' artistry. He has a clear sense of cause and effect and the action confidently zaps and zings when needed. That said, this is another case of a screenplay that's way too airtight for its own good. Stakes are raised but never thrown into doubt; for every moment of peril you're quickly handed a narrative safety net.

You too! Good to know a fellow Universal Soldier: Regeneration fanatic. It really is a superlative work of auteurist brilliance. Image is from David Lynch's short-lived Twin Peaks follow up On The Air. It's all on YouTube if you're curious!

Oh that's interesting, I have never even heard of it. Do I need to see Twin Peaks first? I'm not a big Lynch fan, but I have been wanting to see Twin Peaks. And yes, Regeneration is a masterpiece! Can't wait to see Day of Reckoning. Still sad I had to miss the premiere at Fantastic Fest because of work :(

Yes it's quite an obscurity! 7 episodes made but only 3 made it to air, no official home video release except for a limited, Japan-only laserdisc (hence the subtitles). You definitely don't need to see Twin Peaks first, but if you aren't a big fan it might not be your thing. It's his silliest project to date; a sort of Dadaist slapstick sitcom where every character/scene is grating. But compositions like that scene above are breathtaking (possibly my favourite image of his).
