Downfall, the german film which basically Valkyrie is copied from (not wholly though) is probably my favorite war film of all time, other than The Battle of Algiers (Ennio Morricone’s music is so captivating) and The Thin Red Line.
i think people don’t like these films because it is “cool” to like movies that no one has ever heard about, and be away from the mainstream media. although i agree with some of these points like the lack of story in some of these films and their lack of creativity and originality, I believe some people don’t appreciate some movies because their not the BEST or most EFFECTUAL movies that they have seen. I used to be this way, and in retrospect I regret. Movies are meant to entertain, and although some movies are not the most thought provoking or emotionally riveting, I believe I can be entertained by nearly any movie.
P.S. The Dark Knight, in my opinion was a phenomenal film, and if you believe that it had no story, I really don’t understand what movie you were watching then. The themes of escalation, super hero syndrome, and love were so captivating BECAUSE it was interwoven with such a action-packed plot.
also attacking films on a matter of opinion is what THIS FORUM IS ABOUT…so if you have a problem with that I don’t see why you are a part of this whole social network?
opinion – a message expressing a belief about something; the expression of a belief that is held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof; “his opinions appeared frequently on the editorial page”
i don’t know if this is the “best sequence” but one scene which gives me extreme chills down my spine is when Jack Nicholson walks up the stairs exclaiming “Give Me the Bat” in The Shining…..fucking scary
Shane Meadows is obviously the best British Director right now. This is England and Dead Mans Shoes are amazing feats of storytelling and cinematic design. If he keeps this up he could be the best British Director of all time.
But my fav Brit Movie of All Time has got to be Peeping Tom. Its dissection is completely fantastic.
Although it was pretty much Forest Gump all over again, the dissection of age was captivating. Basically the moral of the movie is no matter what, your gonna be wearing diapers at the beginning and end of your life.

Fighting words like that make enemies….Donnie Darko is sooo uncool to like that you don’t like it. The people you singled out in your movie are the exact people that indie/psuedo-intellectual kids like yourself, are afraid of. Lets not conform to what other people like, but at the same time lets not conform to being the type of person that makes judgements on the judgements of other people. Now I know your mauling over that because it might be just to big to wrap your small brain around…..but Donnie Darko is simply good because of its ability to confuse the viewer and give each individual its own way to tell the story. The themes of depression, schizophrenia, and time travel meld the entire concept into the story that is so confusing that it makes you feel like you were in high school again. Beautiful picture, beautiful story.
I cried at the end of The Mist too! But it was because the movie was extremely terrible.
I cry when Forrest Gump learns of his son and he gets that sobby face and asks Jenny, “Is is… is he smart?”. I also cry when I watch that one movie with Denzel Washington and the kid that grew up with a broken family in the Navy. I cannot remember the title though. Reminds me of my grandfather.

And again like i’ve said in this forum many times before that people are not making themselves look any smarter or cooler by saying critically acclaimed and highly successful movies suck
MOVIES ARE MEANT TO ENTERTAIN AND IF THE DARK KNIGHT DID NOT ENTERTAIN YOU IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT…I THINK YOU ARE BRAINDEAD
Clever, but notice I didn’t say that TDK was the greatest film ever made. Hence I don’t understand why it would cure cancer, or restore eyesight to the blind. In your second to last sentence you compare it to Internment Camps??? I’m sorry but you are too much of a psuedo-intellectual/ indie/ “i don’t like this movie because everyone else likes it” then you need to go home put your favorite portishead record on and contemplate the latest Chuck Klosterman dissertation on contemporary society.
Jack Nicholson – The Shining
Javier Bardem – No Country for Old Men
Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler
John Huston – Chinatown
Kate Winslet – Titanic
Marcello Mastrioanni – Otto e Mezzo
Tatsuya Nakadai – Kagemusha
Diane Keaton – The Godfather
I’m sorry Michael Vincent Dow but seriously, that post just discredited you from this forum for life.
Also Kevin Saylers, you are freaking ridiculous. Grow the fuck up dude, and if you have anything worthwhile to say, say it, but if you don’t, then don’t. Sucking cock on the forums of a website can only mean one thing in your true life.
also have you seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Zodiac???? I’m not saying they are amazing films or anything but they are definitely way way better than Iron Man. The only film that Jon Favreau has directed thus far that is good is Elf. And thats only because of Will Ferrell, who in my opinion is ridiculously hilarious.
i’m sorry Tom, but you seem like you have nothing worth while to say. All I’ve seen you do is bash other people on this forum and not write anything of significant value.
um there are so many American Directors better than Tarantino. I don’t really have a problem with his movies or anything but I hate it when he acts. I remember watching him interview on Jay Leno and he was speaking about how he asked Robert Rodriguez for a minor part in Planet Terror and said that “I can act pretty good”, when he definitely cannot. I could act better than Quentin Tarantino when I was in elementary school. I mean I’m no Jean Pierre Leaud but still, have you seen the trailer or movie for Suziyaki Western Django, the new film from Takashi Miike? I’m sorry but Quentin Tarantino lost so much credit in that movie.
If someone wishes to point out Resevoir Dogs, fine…but he isn’t good in that either, although he does a find job of directing.
