the curious case of benjamin button over 3 years ago

I personally found it to be a bloated film where the thematic statements are spoon-fed to the audience and is filled with countless unnecessary subplots that eventually arrive no where. The title character is practically flat despite Brad Pitts enthused and melancholic performance.

… and the forrest gump self-plagiarizing didn’t help it.

NODS - What & who do we want to see win? over 3 years ago

Out of the safe choices that the academy will go for this year, i’d really like to see The Wrestler for Best Picture and Synecdoche, New York for best original screenplay.

I’m gonna be so dissapointed if the academy pulls another Titanic fiasco and lets Benjamin Button conquer the awards.

What's your Top 10? over 3 years ago

I consider myself still highly uninformed when it comes to classics, foreign films, and the avant-garde… but as it stands this is what my list is:

8 1/2
Clockwork Orange
Stalker
Blue Velvet
The Big Lebowski
Dogville
Eraserhead
Once Upon a Time in the West
Once Upon a Time in America
Ran

What's the most annoying film music you've had to endure? over 3 years ago

Lost Highway – It really felt like Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti was trying to get in touch with the wastelands of Generation X here, when they should have stuck to their guns.

Wild at Heart – Same deal, except it was a bit more appropriate for the (purposely)daft main characters, but when the ‘shredding’ was used externally it became a total bother.

Most Experimental Films? over 3 years ago

They don’t have to be good, but lets just compile a list of experimental films for the hell of it, considering they’re the ones that usually fly under public and critical reception.

The Holy Mountain
Dogville
Inland Empire
The Thin Red Line
Eraserhead
Gummo

Mulholland Dr. – Silencio sequence
The Elephant Man – John Merrick’s death
Lawrence of Arabia – when Lawrence executes the man he risked his life to save + the cinematography

The Wrestler – When Ram attempts to go on a jog and collapses and says ‘aww fuck’ in a broken voice
The New World – The beautifully edited final minutes
Seven Samurai – Kikouchiyo’s Demise

@ Richard D, Yes I just saw the show entitled “13 most beautiful, songs for andy warhol” this weekend as a matter of fact. It’s worth the admission price, the selection of screen tests are very good, yet the music and showmanship was lacking in some areas. PM me if you have any more questions about it.

Watchmen over 3 years ago

If you’ve read the comic and seen Snyders previous films, this makes for a very interesting discussion that is popping up everywhere around the internet.

Being a fan of the book, and following the production closely I still find myself neutral on in terms of expectations. I don’t expect Snyders directing to be tip-top, but from what I’ve seen of the cinematography, special effects, casting choices, production design, costumes and makeup I’m expect them to hide (for what I assume to be) shallow directing. Plus utilizing the graphic novel more than the scripts during production, is quite reassuring; but the reported elaborations that Snyder uses(and the studios tamperings) could be harmful.

So, what does everyone think?

Watchmen over 3 years ago

I think the cast is great, though I suspect that Malin Ackerman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will give the lesser performances. Seriously though, Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley were both born to play their Nite Owl / Rorschach.
