“You are what you love, not what loves you.” – Charlie Kaufman
Film is the air I breathe. I often ponder over my favourite films, and conclude that my life is twice is good because of their existence… That’s how much they stimulate, affect, and inspire me. As sad as it may sound, the best moments of my life, have been through film. Is that because my life is dull and sheltered? No. It’s because film, by it’s nature, has a whole bunch of enticing advantages over reality – utilising all it’s tools, it can jampack all of life’s joys, issues and beauty into a neat little 1.5 hr session. It has IMMENSE POWER. If there was ever a realistic manifestation of “magic”, it would be the effect that occurs when you put the right music, to the right moving image. Film has more potential for complexity and depth than a human could even begin to explore in 10 lifetimes. And that quite frankly, turns, me, ON.
Over the course of my life I’ve greedily “eaten” as many films as I could possibly find. And when it finally comes time for me to put on my chef’s hat on, and have access to that power and infinite potential, so I can cook up a storm of my own choosing… well… the prospect is utterly mouth-watering.
“The brain is the most complex thing in the universe, and it’s right behind the nose.” – Michel Gondry
