About Me

http://whiskeyoutlaw.tumblr.com

I don’t really know why I like the movies I like or why I make the movies I do. Whatever gets my feet tapping, my eyebrows jumping, my heart racing, and my senses shaking, all while I sit in my seat, that’s the kind of movie for me. I like things to be alive!

We have eerily similar taste (how many people love Bringing Out the Dead, Tetro, Lenny, Deconstructing Harry, and The Dreamers??) and I see you gave The Lovely Bones 4 out of 5 stars. I'm a Jackson fan and based on Atonement and Hanna I think Ronan is great, so I would make an effort to watch this film... but everyone else I know or don't know seems to hate it. Why do you like it more than most?

I have this feeling Von Trier makes films to prey on art house tastes only to make fools out of us for even watching them in first place. Despite whatever the reason it is he makes them, "Breaking the Waves" is a movie I feel transcends his prankster motives and graduates into genuinely felt film art. And in a weirdly philosophical way that makes it really amazing.

I agree, Maicol! Good observation about Von Trier.

Of course I empathize with your fuckery. I've often been feeling lately like I'll end up less like Soderbergh & more like Carax, make a few daring films then fizzle... Malaise, we be.

I Am Love

The Italian cinema seems to have modes: gritty neorealism on the one hand and grand opera on the other. Luca Guadagnino’s I AM LOVE belongs to the tradition of grand opera, cinematic opera, and o boy…  read review

After seeing ‘WASP’ and ‘Red Road’ I was hooked on Andrea Arnold’s raw, pure sense of cinema. There was something so complex about the way she portrayed the confusion and evils that lie inside the…  read review

Don’t even know where to start on this one. So many great one liners from a script so meaty every actor seems to be chewing from some species of cannibalistic buffet. What devastation the movie leaves…  read review
