Serious Criterion junkie here too. I am so happy to find you guys. I agree with Broncstud that DVDPlanet is the best place to purchase them. More expensive but well worth it with all the extras included that aren’t as necessary in a basic disc. I watch the film once and then run the commentary. I have gone bonkers over their recent GW Pabst additions of “Threepenny Opera” and “Pandora’s Box”.
By the way, how do I change my posting name on here? I want one like BroncStud.

Has anyone ever seem “Cinemania”? It’s a doc about these quirky arthouse film people in NYC who schedule their entire lives around seeing film. I mean, they live for it, right down to eating he right binding food so they won’t have to go to the bathroom between running from theater to theater. I watched this a few times and thought, oh no, I am a trust fund away from being one of them (if I had a trust fund).
If you had a theater to run for one day and any film at your disposal, what would you show as double features? Would they follow a theme or be random?
Something like
“When a Woman Ascends the Stairs” followed by “Woman in the Dunes”
“Monterey Pop” followed by “Woodstock”
“I am Cuba” then “Before Night Falls”…
I hate to admit it too, but Criterion does have a few dogs. I managed to watch Powell-Pressburger’s “49th Parallel” and couldn’t believe how bad it was.

You all make excellent points. What about “Gladiator”? I can hear the collective groan…

SO in agreement on “Three Colors: Red”. I’d like to add “Burnt by the Sun”…that was my fetal position movie.

Dave, I’d never heard of Satantango, just read about it and would join you. It looks incredible. That’s what I love about this site.

How about “Before the Rain” with Katrin Cartlidge? He really needs better roles like that.

I just saw “Honeymoon Killers” for the first time and loved it. It reminded me of “Night of the Living Dead”…great combo.
