I believe that Hana-Bi and Sonatine should be on the collection, both great movies from Takeshi Kitano. Cowboy Bebop should be on the collection, I know it’s an anime series, but the storytelling and flare is so good, I don’t even see it as a series, it’s more of a movie to me, especially the last two eps. Ridicule me if you will, but I love it. And Wong Kar Wai’s stuff, but Kino has most of it.
“25th Hour” by David Benioff, great book, also a good movie. Should also read David Benioff’s “When the Nines Roll Over and Other Short Stories”, very entertaining.
Hans Grubber in Die Hard, he just had such class for being a German terrorist, and he was just so cunning. He had was cold in his executions as well, “I’m going to count to three.” His brother Simon from Die Hard 3 also wasn’t bad.
John Woo/Chow Yun Fat
Scorsese/De Niro
Wong Kar Wai/Tony Leung
Antonioni/Vitti
Truffet/Leaud
Smith/Mewes
QT/Sammy J
….and there’s probably a lot more that I haven’t thought of
I freakin’ love La Dolce Vita, but it can be very long and slow, I mean very long. 8 1/2 can be very freaky if you have a very bad headache or if you’re very tired.
Chungking Express and Fallen Angels- Christopher Doyle. The movies look fuckin’ great with their crazy camera work. Christopher Doyle is freakin’ crazy, but he can sure make a film look damn good. His other Wong Kar Wai collabs are also pretty good, but these two are my fuckin’ faves.
Fallen Angels is my favorite wkw film, and I believe it to be very overlooked. It’s a very cool film, it’s visually wonderful. The movie tugs at your heart as well, such as when the Mute watches the video of his father. From the book I was reading “Contemporary Film Directors: Wong Kar- Wai”, wkw busts out all the tricks he can in the this movie, so it’s kind of like his “look what I can do” movie, but it just makes the film more entertaining I believe and probably why I believe it to be his best.
La Notte has to…has to be on the Criterion Collection. We gotta get rid of that crap copy that Fox Lorber has out. Com’on Criterion, you gotta release it. Gotta finish the trilogy, you got L’Avventura and L’Eclisse, now you need La Notte. I beg for your help!!!!
The whole Young and Dangerous series, that shit was fuckin’ awesome and still fuckin’ awesome. Hung Hing Boys for life…. Most you probably don’t even know what I’m talking about.
My parents are really old school asian, so they don’t like or watch a lot of the movies that I watch, my mother likes Ben Hur because she remembers seeing it in Vietnam back in the day. I was also surprised that she was watching The Host with this one time it was on tv. My father doesn’t care much, he’s always at work. But my mom and dad do like watching bond flicks, doesn’t matter, any of them. I myself prefer the Connery flicks.
I second The Killer, damn Dragon Dynasty and their release, preordered my shit 2 years ago and after a while they cancelled it, and the release is still in the air. Just have to stick w/ my old Fox Lorber copy for now.
Shirley Kwan’s version of “Forget Him” in Fallen Angels, it’s a really cool song and it plays a vital role in the movie as well. Flying Pickets’ version of “Only You” at the end credits is also very cool.
Wong Kar Wai’s “Fallen Angels”, everybody is too busy sucking on “In the Mood for Love”, as much as I like it, but when WKW comes up it’s either that or “Chungking Express”
J. David Shapiro’s “We Married Margo”, the most impossible film to find, ever. It’s not available on dvd, vhs, or anywhere. It’s nowhere to be found. It’s a funny movie, I saw it once on like in the middle of the day on basic tv. Been trying to find it ever since. Luckily for me, IFC is showing it on 2/16 at 8:05 am and 1:15 pm, eastern time. Got my dvr to record both showings, just in case. It’s the only way I can see it. Anybody know of any other source of this film?
We Married Margo,it was this independent film that was like just on tv, like regular antenna tv, in the middle of the day. I was caught up on it, it was funny. The film does not exist on dvd or vhs. It is on IFC this coming Monday, if you’re interested, check your listings.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a total mindfuck. I guess End of Evangelion can count as a film. It’s a great series and all, but fuck it at the same time. I think there was some literal mindfucking in one episode. But Evangelion totally tricks you, it starts off as like a happy go luck mecha anime, but it takes a fuckin’ left turn in the middle of the series, where you find out everyone in that show just has problems. Both endings pissed me the fuck off, I don’t know which ending I like more, or correction pissed me off less: That everything that happend near the end never real and just a fuckin’ test or we ALL fuckin’ DIE. Supposedly the new ending for the re-fuck films is gonna be the true ending, but I feel it’s also gonna piss me off.
Again, sorry, I kinda went off… but it’s also always fun for me to vent my fustration with the series.
