A lot of Eastern European and Soviet films were censored- some that come to mind for starters- Ivan the Terrible 2 (Stalin disapproved, delayed till 1958) Andrei Rublev, also delayed in Soviet Union, ostensibly for nudity, Commissar (Askoldov). Poland- Interrogation. Czechoslovakia- Larks on a String...
Skolimowki's Hands up! was not only censored for 17years but Jerzy had eventually to leave to England. Makavejev had to give away his passport for his films. But on the other hand their films have something very fresh such as a Chytilova would show like in her fantastic Daisies. I would love to find something similar from Hungary or Lithuania or any other good old communistic satellite.
By the way, I so much value Interrogation, such a heavy one. Same level as Kieslowsky's Dekalog..
Cheers mate, you seem to know a lot about cinema from all around the world. Would you have any idea about some films from Hungary or other countries from the communistic era that were censored because of their political or experimental or sexual content?
