He's not the greatest director, in my opinion, nor are his films the greatest of anything. But as an up and coming filmmaker, he is probably the most inspiring positive influence in the business.
Important person. Very important person in the art/social/world. Malcolm X is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.
The empty hand is probably the best use of sound and image ever used in cinema, and is proof of it's merit as art. I don't know if anything has ever suprassed it.
