I'm probably going to major in International Economics with an Arts and Humanities minor. At least, that's what I'm planning for now. It is sad that I can count the number of thoughtful conversations I've had about art on one hand. A girl I used to know once told me that she thought talking about music and movies was stupid since there were so many better things to talk about. Gah. At least we have the Auteurs.
I'm older than you, I'm into movies since I was 23 or 24, like 10 years ago, but still I feel the same as you... some peole, and some conversations in the forums are clearly between highly formed and informed people... of course movies are art, not science (without ignoring the big technical aspect of it), it's not like if you don't know how to make a movie then you can't have an opinion on any movie... if you don't know maths, you can't have an "opinion" on differential calculus... I used to be very hostile (verbally) about my likes and dislikes, more recently I learned to just hear other people's opinions without making it personal, abundance is the soil of things I like and dislike, so I support abundance in any aspect of life... but when Im asked I give my opinion, then I'm willing to discuss... I mean, I've read many well writen, intelligent arguments against Persona of Bergman, still is a movie that I would hardly cease to admire, because of what it says about solitude, among other things... and there's some brilliant arguments in favour of Star Wars... but I hardly believe that I would ever like that movie... I going to look for Mean creek... because the bully theme is compelling to me, is a necessary discussion on education on any country, it's like a micro-cosmos of what happens later in life and it should be observed seriuosly if society ever wants to improve (of course first, some have to be convinced that it actually needs to improve)... is that movie on the line of Bully the film of larry clark? sounds like it... tha'll be a nice topic on a forum... bullys on movies, if it isn't there already, frankly I have no time to look in all the topics to see what theme has already been explored... so long...
