I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about Bresson other than his nationality. This was more than a bit cynical but I did enjoy it. (The moral of the story is always lend your kid money OR ELSE.)

HI, Sparky. I hope not bothering you by answering on your wall. My dislike for About Elly, and especially my calling it a "bad american movie" has to do with the way all the characters scream out loud their emotion. I don't think people usually do this. Not all of them at least. And here we have a group of people who gives a name to every emotion occurs to them. So why are they doing this? I'm afraid they're doing it for the audience to understand them and to mirror their emotion. I regard this way of involving the audience as a manipulative one, one that i really despise and one that is quite typical of bad american movie while seldom found in good iranian cinema. Obviously this is a generalization and so my point is a bit generic :( bye, sb

Thanks for the comment. It's been a while since I last saw the film, but it really was much talkier than the other Iranian movies I've seen. I think Farhadi started as a playwright, which might explain his propensity for words. Thanks for the explanation though. Makes sense.
