well my honest opinion about never let me go is this first off, it's based on a truly moving, beautiful novel. I fell in love with the book. I read the majority of it in one afternoon/early evening because I was so intrigued and amazed. the film has a wondrous mood to it, beautiful cinematography, and the parts set at school when the characters are children are quite intriguing. it just felt a bit hollow, like something was missing. it skipped a lot in the book, the characters felt almost incomplete (keira knightley's 'ruth' in particular), it's hard to describe. it got the mood right but the pacing was a bit off and I think the subtlety was overdone, it was too subtle. I think if you are interested you should see it and tell me what YOU think, because I know a few friends who loved it and who disagree with my thoughts on it. but then again, my father and another friend of mine shared my opinion. It's just, I wanted to love the book as I loved the book, but I couldn't. it had such a premise and such an interesting plot/ideas but it didn't fulfill my expectations. I think carey mulligan was quite good in it though, probably the best out of the actors (though I liked andrew garfield's performance as well) I haven't heard of vice guides to film. is it a guide from vice magazine? which one did you see? irreversible? or another of his films. my mother I believe went to the opening of irreversible at cannes, and she met gaspard noe
wings of desire was fantastic. I was entranced. it's so bizarre and quiet and poetic. my father told me about and said he thought I'd enjoy it, and he was right. and strangely enough I find some connections between it and enter the void, mostly stystically but still. enter the void's far darker and graphic though of course. I'm interested in this idea of yours to create something inspired by wings of desire yes, mubi's sort of addicting. it's also a nice way to catalogue thoughts about films/what to see next. I keep lists though of films I see outside of mubi also. I've realized I ought to see far more films this year and there a ton of classics I have yet to see that I must see soon. for example, I just put "the night of the hunter" on the top of my queue on netflix!
