About Me

Blonde Roses, White Lilies, and The Sordid Lives of the Rich and Despicable from Joe Wakeman on Vimeo.

Joe Wakeman is the writer/director of several short films, including “Lady Grinning Soul,” “A Night With Nikki Superstar,” “Un Film Français,” and “GLENN CARTER et la Femme de la Mer.” In addition to these films, he also co-wrote and acted in the David J. White film “Red Room.” (trailer here.)

He has also written a feature-length screenplay titled “The Shoplifters,” (with a partial story credit to magician Taylor Bruck) about a project for a Marxist revolution in America.

In addition to his film work, Joe Wakeman has a cat named Meow Zedong, was a founding member of techno-slash-house-rock band Possum Toss’Em, loves America, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald, is interested in aesthetics, has a cowboy wallet and cowboy sheets but no boots or hat, built the pyramids, engineered “Project Alaska,” won the Battle of Valley Forge and the Battle of Bully Run and that’s about the biggest thing that man has ever done.

He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, and is working on a new script, tentatively titled “Juliet, A Model.”

Though I do love that film I still prefer a viewing experience that captivates me so that I forget I'm watching a movie and just experience it. On the other hand I like a movie that I can get comfortable either in its style or its realism. I beleive movies can accomplish these two things simultaneously. "Trash" did neither of those things for me. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. I guess I just don't think it's important.
