What film scenes really make you cry? over 3 years ago

There are a lot, but I’m with The Corduroy Suit on Kenji singing “Life is Short, Fall In Love Sweet Maiden” in Ikiru. Totally.

Hmm…
the end of Henry & June
Breakfast at Tiffany’s – when they look for Cat in the rainy alley
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest when the chief suffocates McMurphy

and I think I remember crying over The Brown Bunny too…

what film or films may have made you into the fan/fanatic you are over 3 years ago

I was born with a love of films of all kinds, but I would have to say that seeing Eraserhead at the midnight show when I was like 13 sealed the deal on me being a total movie geek, because I absolutely LOVED it. I also remember seeing Scorsese’s Last Temptation of Christ in a small theater in Norwalk, Connecticut when I was 11 and there were protesters outside… behold the power of art!

Mamma Mia!

Seriously though…
Irreversible makes me squirm a little.

Scariest… Jesus Camp

John Waters over 3 years ago

John Waters is one of my favorite people on earth. Cry Baby… so awesome, although I do love the weird trashy stuff too. And his one man show is brilliant – This Filthy World.

Jeremy, I was thinking the same thing about the New York accents. Hilarious!

Criterion Coming Soon and Discussion over 3 years ago

I am looking forward to Danton. It’s the best thing I’ve seen so far about the French Revolution and really captures the essence of it. Georges-Jacques Danton is one of the most fascinating characters of that time. I’ve had a crappy VHS copy of it for years!

Favorite use of a song in a film. over 3 years ago

I concur with Fletch. In addition to “In Dreams” in Blue Velvet, “Love Letters” was also awesome.

I still love the opening credits of Pretty In Pink… The Psychedelic Furs

John Huston’s The Dead

But I was 10 years old… maybe I should give it another chance now that it’s been 22 years? Would anyone recommend it?

…basically all of the stupid movies that my husband loves. Beerfest, etc. If he were to answer this question, it would be a list of all of the films that I love.

Something Weird Video over 3 years ago

SWV is brilliant… the trailer collections were a big hit at parties.

The video place I used to work at had all of the vintage porno and bizarro sex loops. It was fun to see what kind of people would rent them.

Crispin Glover, really? over 3 years ago

Yes, really. Gawd I love Crispin. The Charlie’s Angels movies are one of my guilty pleasures because of him. And he was perfect as Bartleby.

Rubin & Ed… I have to see again. It’s been a long time.

I remember thinking that he was a really bad actor in River’s Edge… until I experienced actual speed freaks. Then I saw that he was truly a genius.

I have a couple of his art/book thingies too. I still have yet to see What Is It?
