About Me

I’ve been interested in the process of filmmaking for decades, but only in the last few years have I really become serious about studying the art of cinema. My true plunge into the waters began with my purchase of Janus’s 50 Years of Essential Art House box set, which opened me up to a world of cinema I never imagined.

In an effort to sum up my favorite films I began a project called “This Guy Over Here” where my mission is to find the best films of each decade. However, for relevancy and organizational reasons, I’ve decided to start with the 2000s. You can see the site at www.thisguyoverhere.com

Pixar movies are my guilty pleasure as well. You don't even want to know how many times I've seen Ratatouille.

I don't know if you can do this but try to think like a child. My dad says I still have a childlike innocence and that is why I can connect with Miyazaki so well. Try and refind it as you or before you watch the film. : )

This was quite an intense and tough little experience. It is quite disturbing, but I felt only because of not knowing what exactly to expect. Personally, I love great use of long takes, and boy does…  read review

Margot at the Wedding

It took me a long time to decide how I felt about this film. My initial response was that I didn’t like it, but I think I was tricked because I didn’t like the characters or what they did. That doesn’t…  read review

The Spirit of the Beehive

Incredibly engaging. This is one of the few films where I’ve experienced a state of timelessness wherein the duration of the film played zero part of the story. What felt like twenty minutes passed…  read review

I’ve gotta be honest, I was not a fan of this film and don’t understand why it’s been hailed as a classic. There are a lot of classics that I may not be able to connect to, but grasp the reasons why…  read review
