About Me

I love films across all genres and styles. A creative person, I often see films in a mulititude of layers with an appreciation of every creative aspect of movie-making from the cinematography right down to the wardrobe department. For me, a “good” film doesn’t have to be high quality, I often like B-movie, cult, or exploitation films.

I only offer my personal opinion here, I don’t claim to be an authority on anything. As one of my favourite screen characters, Dirty Harry once said: “Opinions are like assholes… everyone’s got one.”

When I am not watching movies, I am always chasing a McGuffin and also spend a lot of time collecting and DJing funk & soul music. For that side of my split personality, you can visit http://www.funkalicious.co.uk

Latest Update

Alien--2

Alien³

Here's where the series comes unstuck. The story is decent enough and the prison colony is a good idea - but it ultimate lacks the atmosphere and tension of the first two films and the special effects are a disaster. Still very watchable though despite this.

Dracula: Prince of Darkness

While this is not the definitive Dracula movie, it is certainly entertaining. Two English couples ignore warnings from a local abbot to stay away from the castle in Carlsbad (it’s only a model). At…  read review

This gripping and chilling film noir is visually stunning and superbly made, scripted and acted – particulary from the star of the movie, Gloria Swanson who puts in a terrific performance that will…  read review

The Maltese Falcon

One of the first (and best) films noir, the Maltese Falcon is gritty and fast paced with sharp, rapid-fire dialogue and uncompromisingly delivered, ruthless characters who seem to know no bounds in…  read review
