Last Halloween I went as Little Edie Beale from Grey Gardens. It was actually quite annoying explaining to dozens of people all night who I was. (“Are you a gypsy?” “A pirate?” “A hobo?”) Literally, no one knew! This year I’m thinking ’40s pin-up girl. No explanation needed…hopefully.
I hate to admit it, but I watch a lot of films just to cross them off my “movie list.” Not to say I don’t LOVE the art of cinema and most of the movies that I see, but I’d be lying if I said that I would have watched Salo and Fat Girl for any other reason.
Also, I’ve seen Hot Fuzz and My Fellow Americans about 100 times combined! I’m sick!
Drew: Salo was disturbing to me. I could not find artistic merit in it – besides maybe the cinematography, the Marquis de Sade connection and the political overtones. And Fat Girl was actually quite good. It had a slow build and then whoa (kinda like Elephant and Cache).
I do love to watch controversial movies, to see why they’re controversial – guilty pleasure… And I love lists!
