Oh yeah! Andrew Keegan exists!
This is a humorless, nihilistic "Lifetime" movie of epic proportions, complete with rape, sadism, assault, disfigurement, and weekly dog murders. Every character is a tortured, victimized soul with no chance for redemption or joy. I didn't recognize any action or character as being the least bit human. I disagreed with almost every choice the writer/director made.
Esperanto?! Well, I HAVE to see it now.
I adore Fritz Lang, but I strongly dislike blatant "message movies."
This is my favorite MST3K film ever!
A flawed but generally enjoyable film. A great concept for a heist film that withered somewhere in the execution. I would love to see a modern remake.
Not my favorite Roeg film by far, but enjoyable. The end sequence is one of the most beautiful (and also horrific), I've ever seen. Tony Lawson is a spot-on editor.
This ridiculously anachronistic vehicle was sputtering along with inappropriate pacing and missed editing beats. With very little plot and even less character development, this was excruciating to watch. If you want a 1970s take on the Great Depression era, please watch "Thieves Like Us" or "The Sting," and skip this.
Bejewelled!
This made no sense to me, but it's worth watching for the scenes with the demon. He is insanely creepy.
What's the story here? Why are there so many directing and writing credits?!
I like "A Decade Under the Influence" better, but this is still worth seeing.
I wonder if Apichatpong Weerasethakul was inspired by Dreyer. "Uncle Boonmee" kinda reminds me of this film, mood-wise. I know it doesn't seem like an obvious comparison, but it just struck me after watching this film for the first time today.
Classy brew.
Kind of a precursor for "Russian Ark."
Don't watch this movie while you're hungry... or full.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Honestly, 75% of the reason why I like this movie is because I love and admire Sam Fuller so much!
This is a guilty pleasure. Bad wigs, but great soundtrack!
Great costumes and art direction, but not much else.
It's so hard to rate a film like this objectively.
I'm sorry, Maria Bello does not seem like a Jane Austen type of girl.
So, was this a hoax or not?
A gender-bending mix of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Jack the Ripper, Frankenstein, The Body Snatcher, and Dorian Gray! Could have been campier for my taste, but quite good nonetheless.
The climax was horrifying, yet I couldn't look away.
This was finally put out on dvd! http://www.amazon.com/Mister-Buddwing-Remaster-Ames-Garner/dp/B00507LT6W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317241158&sr=8-1
I encourage you to see this film and then to do a 30-day vegan (plant-based) challenge and see how much better you feel! "Veganomicon" is a great cookbook to start with. Also, try veganizing your favorite foods. Vegweb.com is a great place to get ideas. Sorry about the rant. I love great food as much as I love great films!
Michael Ritchie is grossly underrated. After watching this and Downhill Racer and Smile (and, hell, I'll say it, Fletch!), I am starting to consider him one of my favorite American directors.
(Spoiler) Interesting that it began and ended just like "Carrie"... A shower scene and a dream sequence.
I thought De Palma was a hack...until I watched "Blow Out." The cinematography and camerawork are brilliant. The script is tight. Travolta's spot-on. And the ending is pure stylized bliss!
