At the age of 16 I learned that ‘film’ is not only pretentious jargon for moving pictures, but a legitimate art form thanks to the Rochester (NY) Public Library. At the time I worked at a Blockbuster video, but our ‘foreign’ section was unforgivably small (I believe 40 titles in all). Thanks to the city’s public library system, I was able to give myself an ad-hoc education and form a true and lasting love for the medium. I couldn’t agree more with this exhortation to support one of the most neglected institutions out there…..go to the library, people. Especially if you live in Philadelphia or any of the other major cities who are freaking out due to recession and considering closing the doors on them.
