i’m the only person i know who hates forest gump/and it’s academy award for best picture. it won over shawshank redemption and pulp fiction.
i don’t like crash. i do like american beauty but it’s not better than 2001 or the godfather.
i trust the golden palm at cannes more than i do the academy award for best picture.
okay….see i wondered if we were talking about the same year.
That year gave it to Stone for Platoon…when David Lynch should have received it for Blue Velvet
i can’t tolerate Oliver Stone. He gives a bad name to Virgos everywhere.
It’s personal preference but Alphaville is my absolute favorite Godard film. I ADORE that movie. i don’t care if Eddie Constantine is too old for Anna Karina[which is what my friends usually say too me] there’s just something about the movie that jumps off of the screen and consumes me.
that aside.
i would like to know how movies wind up in the criterion collection: mainly…How did Armageddon and The Rock get in?
i like the special features for band of outsiders alot.
i like when Martin Scorsese talks about how much he loves La Stada in it’s dvd features …and when Bernardo Bertolucci does the same thing for The Fists in The Pocket.
my favorite film in the collection is Alphaville.
Val Lewton produced movies like I Walked With a Zombie, Cat People, and The Seventh Victim would be nice.
I’d like to see the Coffin Joe movies in the collection: At Midnight I’ll Take your soul, This Night I’ll Posses Your Corpse.
Mario Bava’s movies need a MUCH better dvd treatment. Those could be put in the collection.
i questioned it being added but that doesn’t matter near as much as the incredible films that will also be added this summer. most importantly Made in U.S.A. {NEVER BEEN IN PRINT IN AMERICA}, Last Year At Merianbad, and 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her. One tends to over look things like Benjamin Button when they finally get the chance to see these other movies. i personally couldn’t be happier.
i like the use of animals in the holy mountain alot!
the fish in The Pornographers is also great.
and even though i didn’t all together like Tarsem’s The Fall as much as i thought i would the shot of the Elefant swimming from under water
took my breath away!
laura palmer’s murder in fire walk with me always freaks me out!
when they’re walking along the train cars and she’s screaming DADDY!! DADDY!!
and i’ve always loved the shot of the plastic going over her from her point of view.
i also love when frank is beating up jeffrey in blue velvet and that woman is dancing to in dreams on top of the car.
i love the fat women dancing in wild at heart.
and i love the spanish version of crying at club silencio in mullholland drive.
OH! and when Henry has sex with the woman acroos the hall and all you see is them go under water and her hair floating on top.
i completely agree with you tara!
Dancer in the Dark fucked me up as well.
that is probably the most painful thing for me to watch.
i spent a couple weeks just being upset…emotionally and almost physically.
i could feel it in my stomach almost.
La Strada always makes me cry but it’s not as depressing to me because there is such a life to it, there is such humanity in it.
but at the end of Dancer in the Dark you just feel like somebody stole something from your spirit.
Ever since I fell in love with Godard’s films i’ve made it my own personal goal to see every one of his films from his classic period: Breathless —→ Weekend. I’ve managed to see All of them now except for [A Married Woman] and [2 or 3 Things I Know About Her].
I’m impatiently awaiting this summer’s criterion release of [2 or 3 things], but as that approaches ive been desperately looking for A Married Woman. I Know that it has a dvd release in the Eureka! masters of cinema series, but unless somebody lets me know otherwise, I’m under the impression that eureka isn’t distributed in America. Does anybody know if there is an american dvd release, where i could find it, or if the film will ever be added to the Criterion Collection?
John Waters – Female Trouble
David Lynch – Eraserhead
Jean-Luc Godard – Alphaville
Wes Anderson – The Royal Tenenbaums
Jean Pierre Melville – Le Doulos
Federico Fellini – La Strada
Sam Fuller – Pick up on South Street
David Cronenberg – Videodrome
Jules Dassin – Rififi
Wong Kar wai – In The Mood For Love
eraserhead: i would say my favorite still from eraserhead is when he “has sex” with the woman across the hall and all you see is them go under water and the hair floating on top but i can’t find a picture of that so i’ll settle for this guy
he always makes me laugh uncomfortably
