really dvkman? did you really just put armageddon and dazed and confused in the same sentence? how can you fault criterion for including an important, very very influential, beautiful, funny film like dazed and confused? to me it sounds like you are just being pretentious. we can all agree that we are baffled by the inclusion of armageddon or the rock, but leave legit classics that greatly changed film alone. and although, button was disappointing on many levels, we can’t deny that it is refreshing to see an american film unafraid of a slow pace, beautiful imagery, excellent non-intrusive acting (not reaching desperately deep to try and get a nomination), and a positive, uplifting, but heartbreaking story. i completely understand why criterion has chosen to release this important film.
come on jp belmondo,
you cannot make that pretentious blanket statement. i myself happen to love and own l’avventura and andrei rublev. some of us don’t pretend to be above hollywood films, thinking we are better for knowing a few artsy foreign films. although i completely agree that the films you chose to mention are far superior to CC, i still maintain that criterion has the ability to realize that this film will be studied in the future and is more important than has been realized. and once again, stop putting dazed with armageddon, they don’t belong together.
goodness gurp,
you my friend, for lack of a better term are an idiot, first off, a ton of those movies aren’t “crime” films, second, do you know what the criterion collection is? don’t get me wrong, they’ve released some questionable stuff, but it sounds like you just want them to switch to only releasing mostly mediocre american films instead of bringing us mostly excellent, mostly unheard of foreign films.
well done
