About Me

22-year old Italian lad, MADLY in love with Cinema.

Right after the Disney classics (which I worshiped during my childhood), I began to watch – in addition to mainstream movies – many fine works by Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, Mario Monicelli, Luigi Magni, Dino Risi, the Coen brothers, Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese. When I was 15, I discovered Stanley Kubrick and Federico Fellini, whose amazing masterpieces strongly influenced my idea of cinema. In recent years, a wise exploitation of many specialized books and magazines – and a smart use of such useful web tools as ‘IMDb’ and ‘MUBI’ – helped me to deepen my knowledge and to better understand what I was looking for.

If I were to write down the greatest things I have discovered since I am on ‘MUBI’ (r.i.p. ‘TheAuteurs’), they would be: Orson Welles, David Lynch, ‘Buster’ Keaton, Andrei Tarkovsky, Michelangelo Antonioni (an Italian fellow, believe it or not!), Luis Buñuel, Jean Renoir, Kenji Mizoguchi, Werner Herzog, Terrence Malick, Jacques Tati, Hayao Miyazaki, the German Expressionism (F.W. Murnau!) and the American ‘film noir’. Feel free to follow me here or to ask for my Facebook account in a private message, if you are interested.

Hey! How are you? What is your favorite movie of Charles Chaplin? And Akira Kurosawa?

Hello, there! I am doing fine, thanks! And you? The work from Chaplin that I love most is "The Gold Rush" (in its 1952 version). I don't have a favourite Kurosawa... however I think that I'll go with "Seven Samurai" or "Ran" if I were to choose. It is hard to make a choice when it comes to unique film-makers like these guys. ;)

I'm fine! 'The Gold Rush' is a great movie and 'Seven Samurai' too but I prefer 'Rashomon, have you seen this movie?

Of course I did, and I did enjoy it! I tend to prefer the other two because they look slightly more epic than "Rashomon", but they're all masterpieces. "Ikiru" is another one that I like very much! I am willing to watch more from Kurosawa, though.

Although initially scheduled for release on May 27th, "The Tree of Life" came out yesterday in Italy. I think that FOX Searchlight acted like this to prevent that the news of 'boos' at Cannes could have caused a total debacle for a film which is generally considered as non-commercial. You will have to wait a few more days but it will be totally worth it, trust me.
