8.5/10
Very much an adult movie for people who have deep emotions, Kate Winslett made it all believable. The other actors weren’t up to her quality so the 8.5 score. I really think that you almost have to be 50+ to really enjoy the subtlety of the movie.
Lafayette, Macon County, Tennessee. Up on the ridge in “ridge and holler” country. More deer and turkeys than people, Tennessee the way people from other places think it really is supposed to be!
I have 643 catalogued DVDs in 4 huge bookshelves ( I just entered # 643, that’s why I know the exact number). Most of them are older classic movies, Film Noir and Japanese movies. I often buy a second copy without meaning to. I use them for swap items with other DVD buffs.
I first saw Kwaidan on the big screen (1965) in Iwakuni,Japan with a young Nihonjin female companion. I have the DVD and it brings back many very fond and cherished memories. I was a 22 year old Marine Sergeant at the time.
As a retired school teacher, I saw the whole movie in a different light than most of you seem to have seen it. The movie wasn’t to glorify Nazis but to show how an uneducated person is ripe for exploitation by any force that comes along to use her. It never said what she did was right but that she ended up taking the blame for all of it because of her ignorance. Those with better education were able to lay their blame on her. It happens in our own country in every decade, with at least one administration exploiting the poor and uneducated for political gain. It isn’t a uniquely German experience, it is universal. This movie just happened to take place in mid century Germany. I rather liked the movie although it did sadden me.

Walter “Jack” Palance and Bruce Dern. Evil on the hoof ( and both are actually really nice people in real life!)

HOW DO YOU FILE YOUR COLLECTION? about 3 years ago
Genre first and then alphabetical by title within genre. I use MS Excel for the catalogue. When I am in the mood for a movie, it is always by genre.

I was eight years old and my grandparents took me to see “Bambi.” I cried profusely when Bambi’s mother was shot.
