I know a lot of people wants to see “The Catcher in the Rye” done as a film, but many will dislike it even without seeing it.
Maybe it’s true that it is an unfilmable book. I for one don’t want it done, but I would watch it anyways.
I love Band of Outsiders, Jules and Jim has nice Truffaut related extras and “In the Mood for Love”, just for Maggie Cheung
alone. Also the cover of Man Bites Dog is awesome.
The Lost Boys is a good one, specially the part in which the vampires hang from the train tracks.
But personally I like “Once Bitten”, with the great Jim Carrey!!!
The sun, whose rays
Are all ablaze
With ever-living glory,
Does not deny
His majesty —
He scorns to tell a story!
He don’t exclaim,
“I blush for shame,
So kindly be indulgent.”
But, fierce and bold,
In fiery gold,
He glories all effulgent!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky —
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky —
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!
Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon’s Celestial Highness;
There’s not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, through the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her!
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well,
So I, for one, don’t blame her!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We’re very wide awake,
The moon and I!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We’re very wide awake,
The moon and I!
People always forget to mention Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. Every scene looks like a painting. And what about the
lightning techniques on that movie? Every interior scene was lit with candles. Incredibly awesome to say the least.
Brandon Bedaw mentioned an incredible little documentary called “Dear Zachary”. Now that is a powerful piece
of cinema. Recently I watched “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and it made powerful sense to me now that the
USA has an african-american president. We’ve come a long way.
There’s a big difference. The Monty Python cast didn’t change over the years and they didn’t have musical guests
on the show. Also, the comedy of the Python’s is very British whereas SNL is well, very american, funny though,
but not as zany and intelligent as the Python gang.
As for the movies there’s no comparison, I think the SNL produced movies can be seen as entertainment. The Python
films are in a league of their own.
