Yep.
Vigo's films are pure cinematic bliss. He has a playful and reckless style that no director can match (at least from what I've seen). I guess it's true that some of the best die young.
The Room is a true marvel of bad movies (a film essentially made up of pointless and unfulfilled scenes). It transcends boredom and description, it is an enigma, a thing of great mystery and humor, so bizarre yet so humble, it can only be the work of a true genius, or a mad man, or maybe both. And for that Wiseau, I thank you. "You are tearing me apart The Auteurs!"
"Every body betray me! I'm fed up with this woarld!"
interesting at some points but forgettable. anybody else bothered by Weaving's Werner Herzog-esque accent?
wow, a sprawling romantic italian period piece, count me in! Senso is a great experience that's both theatrical and cinematic, graceful and harsh, and contains a perfect execution of mood. Some of the scenes could have been tightened up a bit, but it's still a wonderful film.
meh...it was hit or miss
I felt sick after watching this, there are few films I can say that about. Dogtooth has a serene look but it's bleak as all hell and has somewhat of a twisted humor about it, mixed with some horror elements (right up my alley). Over all one of my favorite films of the decade.
Man, the ending is fucking...It is...well it's...bloody, yeah I think that's a good word to describe it.
Wow really impressive! Did this remind anybody of The Battle of Algiers abit, accept much more melodramatic.
Hey, this wasn't too bad. The acting seemed pretty contrived and the dialogue is nothing special, but the subject is fascinating and the plot moves along rather well. Thank god it's not an underdog story, plus Cobb is a sports movie where you actually hear people say "mother fucker." They didn't keep it totally safe.
Mike Leigh, if any more of your films are as good as Naked, your filmography and I will be friends for a long time.
it's to bad some of the film seemed like filler and contained a lot of predictable elements indicative of the "war documentary genre."
Restrepo deals with one of the saddest subjects I can think of. Young people killing young people. Humanity destroying itself. This is a grim documentation on the horrors of war and the bonds created out of desperation for survival. This is a stunningly evokative film. It's truely shocking when one of the soldiers was smiling while describing the death his comrade, as if he realized the absurdity of his situation.
This film is incredible, i can deffinitely see the Ozu influence. Jarmusch creates his own vision of the western with impeccable efficiency and grace. Surreal and fascinating, dead man is one of the peaks in creativity of 90's independent american cinema and one of Johnny Depp's greatest performances.
All hail the goat master
The only film I've walk out on. My god is this bad.
Oh man this film is great! The story telling is subtle and the moral implications are grand. This has some of the most memorable sequences I've had the pleasure witnessed. The movie might be a bit slow for some, but I personally enjoyed the pace of it. I can't wait to see pandora's box!
This is a great satire on a class of vapid rich white kids who are in rapid decline. The characters are thoroughly explored and the dialogue is as frivolous as the class these characters belong to. I hate these people but I like this film. I do feel that the visuals were a bit lackluster, but that might just be me.
wow this was bad. Most of this movie just seemed like an excuse to fiddle around with a computer. But then again feel that way about most mainstream films nowadays. The story was a hack job at best.
We need to get some flip the frog on here pronto!
the anime equivalent to James Bond, except more wonderful and charming than James Bond has ever been (that's a bold statement).
the funny parts were highly entertaining, the other moments weren't. All in all a solid summer comedy. Probably better than the Hangover 2, from what I've heard that movie's a complete shit storm.
haven't seen the series yet and am already astonished by Evangelion. The animation is truely above and beyond.
Beside being one of the most breathtaking films visually, Floating weeds manages to tell the same story but in a more fast paced and nuanced matter.Though I still prefer the silent version, this reimagining is undoubtebly a masterpiece in it's own right. The characters are more fleshed out yet the emotional impact wasn't as strong. Ozu is one of my favorite auteurs at this point and I've only seen three of his films.
I'm not really an anime guy but this really impressed me. Some of the themes may not be fully realized but that is easily overshadowed by FLCL's incredible animation, witty dialogue, and sureal narrative. Some of the characters do seem to be "quirky" just for the sake of entertainment, but the irreverent and self referential nature of this show makes this perfecty acceptable. Plus I dig the south park references.
An interesting snapshot of the early 70's and a flowery neo-nior starring the uber-charismatic Elliott Gould. What's not to love?
a surreal journey into the relationship between human nature and politics, WR is nothing short of groundbreaking. It dares to confront the sexual revolution with unbridled passion and reactionary structure. It's striking symbolism and bizarre narrative makes it a radical figure head in arthouse cinema. A must see for anyone interested in avant garde.
The perfect documentary
one of the most intense visual experiences I have had the joy to witness. This is a must see for anybody who enjoys animation or symbolism.
Cinema was created for Melies. I can't praise this man enough.
