or Charlie Rose
The movie has it's flaws but there are some incredibles moments such as the potato truck scene or the camra leaving the scene...
Primal Fear meets Silence of the lambs... Watch those two instead.
Man i'd love to watch an interview with Malick, conducted by some other great filmmaker...
A bit less kitsch than "Paris je t'aime" in general but a waste of time, it's a bad movie overall.
Great great actors and excellent mise-en-scène (the long shots for example). I didn't like as much as Sydney Lumet's version though which really was a "huis clos". The scenes - in Mikhalkov's version - with the boy dancing etc, were not really that important I think and the small special effects (the glow around the object) were a bit kitsch... but despite those things this was enjoyable!
Excellent movie but why did mubi choose the worst screenshot?
English, French and Spanish versions are all so great!
My one star stands for the "20 century Fox" fanfare at the beginning which was a nice idea and the iconic still (The Alien near Weaver)
It's all right for the first 30 minutes but as soon as we get in her CG world it's just bad...
Just saw this on bluray (8k scan).... all I can say is wow.
When is this coming out in north america?
Mockingbird and Chickamauga (They're on youtube now!) are two other excellent adaptations.
Nah, watch Serpico instead
The Believers is missing
God.. with a quote like that (“Fast cars are my only vice.”) no wonder his movies suck...
They say the sequence on the horse is like the worst in cinema history... True. But the film is worth the viewing!
insipid adaptation... Watch the adaptation by David Lean!
This movie is a masterpiece and like Quentin Tarantino says on an interview, you can be a cimino hater but when it comes to that roulette russe scene you just "just the fuck up"... Doesn't mean that that scene makes the film, no, but it's the one scene you won't forget...ever. The scrip, the cinematography, the ACTORS!!! and everything else is just perfect.
This movie is obviously funnier when you've seen Robert De Niro's mob movies!
This movie alone is an example of how great Nestor Almendros cinematography was.
Watch the original.
Besides the horrible acting of the principal character who delivered a line and looked down to the groung every freeking time (I know it was Bresson style to use non professional actors and do stuff like this but it worked on other of his films, in this case I didn't like that's all) well besides that, it's a good and interesting film.
This gets 4 stars because of the first one, Magnetic Rose (a kind of 2001: Space Odysee). The second one was funny but mehhh, and the last one disappointed me a lot because I really like Otomo' Akira and Steamboy.... Maybe his short is so simple that that's were the beauty relies on I don't know, I'll have to give it a try again...
Really like the idea of how the dream and reality melt togheter but some things such as the big ending battle with the giant paprika... I didn't like so much...
Great anime. Too bad they didn't include the second half of the story (the comics are way better!) but still, it's a must see and i'm definitly a fan
Wonderful film! More of an adult than a kid's film actually like Grave of the fireflies... This one might just be his best. It's incredible how the director grasps childhood (well one happy kind of childhood) with animated drawings and at the same time makes a kind of documentary about how the people live or lived and farmed the land and everything in the countryside.
Very good prequel to "Kirikou et la sorcière", beautiful colors and animation and the story too but I liked it less than the first one... (One thing that really bugged me is that Kirikou's voice wasn't the same...)
Yeah, oups, I meant "sequel" actually... but yeah, I agree, it's more of another episode.
Simply the saddest anime i've ever seen. Incredible film!
Excellent movie. Javier Bardem is one hell of an actor!
I totally agree with one of the previous comments. After watching his other excellent movies such as the Viring Spring, The Seventh Seal or Wild Strawberries you have to watch Fanny and Alexander, which is his greatest masterpiece (the most "complete" from my point of view, meaning that you will find every aspect Bergman had worked on until then)
