I’m in a relatively small apartment and have quite a few DVDs. I just got a bookshelf from best buy that holds 250, it’s doesn’t take up a whole lot of space and i think it was only about $70. I wouldn’t’ recommend a DVD binder or anything, you could scratch your discs up pretty bad that, plus i love displaying the packaging even if it isn’t anything special.
Another good solution, trade your DVDs to a MovieStop or something and start upgrading to Blu-Ray, they take up much less space on a rack. That’s what I’m in the process of doing. That’ll hit your wallet pretty hard though.
I think that the better question is Monty Python v.s. Kids in the Hall. They are definitely much more similar than Monty Python and SNL. Monty Python is still much better though.
I walked out on Postal, I don’t know why i was there in the first place. I dislike Uwe Boll more than i dislike Dario Argento (which is a lot). I walked out of Zodiac because it was dreadfully boring.
I’m a pretty big Gilliam fan. I appreciate most of his work. Actually, Brazil is among my favorite films. But I do believe that he is a little much for some people and a lot of his films are very unapproachable. I made my girlfriend sit down and watch the director approved version of Brazil with me which i believe she said made her feel “uncomfortable”…but on the other hand, she loved Adventures of Baron Munchhausen.
If you look, every once in a while, there will be a seller on amazon.com that sells the kids in the hall complete series DVD for $60 brand new. That’s where i got mine.
I actually just watched Equinox…I can see how it was groundbreaking for horror and paved the way for a lot of other horror classics…but i thought the acting was bad, the story was weak, the dialog was terrible and I felt like it didn’t really go anywhere. But the camera work was actually pretty decent. Maybe having Ed Begley Jr as an assistant cameraman isn’t such a bad thing.
But, out of all of the Criterion films that I’ve seen so far, Equinox is BY FAR the worst.
Don’t get me wrong, I love watching campy B-movies and i thought that for a movie with a $6500 budget, Equinox did a good job. I just don’t think that it should be a Criterion release. I’m not saying it’s horrible, it’s just the worst movie that I’ve seen in the Criterion Collection so far. Good point about showing the promise of Dennis Muren’s early effects work in films, but I still don’t feel that it was a good choice for Criterion, much better, pivotal horror films could have been in the collection instead, like Night of the Living Dead and Evil Dead II
Only thing that dragged it down was Kristen Stewart’s weak performance and some scenes were a bit drawn out. Other than that, it was great. Very enjoyable, great direction, great camerawork, very good dialog, great story writing.
Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a fantastic writer/director especially when matched up with Marc Caro. I think he should be in a new post called “Directors that only make masterpieces with the exception of one film”….which would be Alien Resurrection. I have no idea why he did that. Watch all of his other films though, they are all excellent.
Juno. Ellen Page was annoying, Diablo Cody is a garbage writer, the story was terrible, she tried to demonize Jason Bateman’s character for no reason and failed miserably and just made the film end up looking stupid.
Col. Dax, Behold… The Arctopus is fantastic and yes i do agree that technical usic like that gives you a great perspective on film and other art in general.
But yes, I love film the most, but music came first
Dead Alive was actually, probably the most over the top violence I’ve ever seen along with the Story of Rikki.
The most disturbing violence I’ve ever seen (actually I didn’t see it because it was physically impossible for me to watch) was in The Descent when the girl fell down the hole in the cave and they had to push the bone back into her leg.
Also pretty disturbing violence (because it was real) was the animal slaughtering in Cannibal Holocaust. I almost threw up but i think that was from the shock value.
I’m going to have to agree on High Tension and Vertigo.
The Maltese Falcon ending kind of sucked, it was really rushed.
Anything that M. Night Shyamalan has written has a terrible ending…but the worst ones were The Village and Signs…but then again, this thread is about GREAT movies and M. Night has not made a GREAT movie in his whole career. They are all decent…or terrible.

rocknrolla – 6.5/10
Not Guy Ritchie’s best work, but it stands up to previous titles and surpasses the garbage that is Revolver by far.
