Anyone else excited about the release of Paranormal Activity? over 2 years ago

I’m a fanatic when it comes to anything paranormal, and will probably watch this film. I just don’t care for POV films anymore. It was cool with “The Blair Witch Project” in ‘99, but recently, it’s been over-kill with films like “Cloverfield” (first half of the film = yawn), “Diary of the Dead” (guess what, more zombies) and “Quarantine” (help, my leg is being chewed off…but I don’t want to let go of the camera).

Finally rented this flick over the holiday break. My delayed viewing is common of me, especially with overly-hyped films. The back of the DVD states that Roger Ebert called it “one truly scary film,” or something of that sort. I truly admire Oren Peli’s independent, low-budget and non-scripted approach (see interview on Jay Leno: http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi2777810201/), but other than a few creepy moments, the film was average at best. After viewing it, I’m convinced on a few things…1) Katie Featherston is HOT, in a girl-next-door kind of way. 2) 100% POV cinematography is played out and best left to the porn industry. The fact that I watched District 9, which wasn’t shot entirely in this fashion, in the same week didn’t help my perception any. 3) I will always be more scared with what I do not see on-screen. The visual effects were subtle, yet effective, and I was repeatedly left wondering when the next big thing would happen. Lastly 4) I am and will always be a paranormal nut! The pace was slow as snails, but in the end, I was entertained. And that’s what movies are all about.

Are scriptwriters running out of ideas? over 2 years ago

“its the internet and communicating through typing. plenty is lost in translation, and nothing is evidently clear.” -@Bobby Wise

Made me think of Soffia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation,” starring Bill Murray. Interesting film. You hit this one on point. Corporate America has penetrated the creative side of Hollywood to the point of no return. Peer-to-peer communication has been reduced to e-mail, versus turning towards your neighboring cubicle or peering around that paper-thin wall to stand face-to-face like normal people. It sometimes helps lessen the ill-perceived tone when you personally know the person on the other end of the textual conversation. It is a shame, but that’s the nature of the digital tools at our disposal.

Can’t imagine jumping back 20 years, though. Sometimes I do whatever I can to avoid those face-to-faces, even from family. Sad, but I’m sure we’ve all preferred to be left alone in peace more than once. Maybe this is why old people get so cranky. They deal with so much BS throughout their lifetime, near the end, they simply want to be left alone…in peace.

What is the worst movie ever (2000-2009) over 2 years ago

I got you all beat. “Beverly Hills Chihuahua.” Tie me to a ceiling fan like a Gremlin and let it spin out of control already. And yes…I got two lil’ ones, so sometimes I have to swallow my pride and partake. Although, the new “Tooth Fairy” may take the throne. You know….the one with that ex-2×4-wielding-ass-kickin’-now-unsure-what-the-hell-to-do-with-his-career dude, formerly known as The Rock.
