A Letter to Uncle Boonmee was one of the best films I saw at TIFF '09. It's super-exciting that it's on The Auteurs. Everyone should watch it!
thanks for catching our error!
Loved this film! I want to see every film Resnais has ever made now.
Thanks for helping us fill in Svankmajer's filmography on The Auteurs. Please feel free to get in touch with recommendations any time.
Publishing all of your suggested film pages right now. Anyone know where we can find a still for Castle of Otranto?
I agree with Matt L that Clouzot's footage is phenomenal. I think Bromberg adds pretty run-of-the-mill talking head interviews that were fine, but didn't do Clouzot's images justice. I want to see someone edit Clouzot's footage into a feature narrative! And I can't wait to see Chabrol's 1994 version of the film.
Maya Deren is endlessly fascinating to me — from her incredible films to her research in Haitian voodoo to her (supposed) postmortem communications via ouija board. An incredible filmmaker and mind.
A tad heavy-handed in its sentimentality, but a sweet, heart-felt movie overall.
I am so excited about this film. All of you going to Cannes have to send the rest of us your reviews as soon as you see it!!
The events captured are terrifying, the editing and story structure are well-crafted, and the protagonist is incredibly compelling even though we never even see his face. Burma VJ is one of the best films I've seen in a long time.
The cinematography is incredible. I thought the entire beach scene was pitch-perfect.
