if you find Shannon to be a boring actor, I have to wonder if there is ANYBODY you find compelling
I remember not remembering anything from this movie except the begining. Now, I find this is one the most sensitive movies about childhood.
The slowest and less doomed Faust I have ever seen. The man take forever to accept the deal and when he does we almost just see the downfall, leaving you uplifted instead of being into the apocalypse of lust and helpless desire.
I always was the worst at all team sports. Competition = feeling of doom in me, or I need to make a parody out of competition and silly virility.
I found none of the mysterious atmosphere and dark beauty that can be found in Norwegian Wood even so I have tried to be a caregiver too (boring and embarrassing as this movie). Not sure why we hear Can music, doesn't fit in there, amateurish like.
A fav from him, pre-Kubrick a bit.
Fair enough because it is so innovative on many levels at the time, but Godard lack of human psychology and compassion for women in general really makes me feel bad on this one. I had to take my distance to enjoy it.
Thought the first part was Oprah Winfrey-like crying crossed with newspaper reportage (too soft, expected from bad directors), the second was Herzog's darker territory with expression Winfrey can't understand. Make me mad about women sometimes or feel close to the one who don't want to go out anymore or the man who see the beauty of life.
Crime movies will forever be a mystery to me. I always feel like I am missing the main psychological aspect of it. All seem with the same depressing cynism. No director ever made it to convince, except perhaps Kubrick with Killing.
Some of the most sterile directing and boring main actor I have seen all year. Why we still see dream scenes so little inventive ?

Really felt like an half assed movie by the Dardenne. It became too easy to do this now. The previous movie took more risks. This one leaves little surprise and invention.
As usual Cronenberg rip off another low distribution movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LUiMUTVUhw&feature=related
Please see his first movies Le Pont, Les Eaux Mortes and La Battue. Marécages (Wetlands) is nice, but it is more mainstream and in the wind of current realism.
Was not sure on first viewing, spending years avoiding all types of action movies. But this one really does it right, more on the rational side than on the emotions (developed on the side), but if you accept the totally non-contemplative approach of Nolan it really is an action movie masterpiece.
I hope it's a joke. It certainly doesn't take years to get the point of the movie. Not too subtle.
Obscure movie discovered by mistake while searching for a song collage with a Valerie and her week of wonders video clip (this later film in the same unusual and malaise theme of fantastic / sexual-fantasy at puberty, but not being so good, too hippie-dated). Is-Slottet is all artistic, barely made for any obvious public ! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5999380757936771837#
I met a woman just like her this year, deeply frustrating, but endlessly fascinating !!
Best movie from a Quebec director ? My favorite anyway !! An levels masterpiece.
Worst movie ever made ?
My favorite Antonioni, a perfect exploration of death and identity, without anything decorative to please the ego or any overlength to make a statement. The latest sequence is one of the most beautiful and expressive in all cinema !!
It seems I am the biggest fans of all Rivette movies cinephiles don't like ! I am quite happy to share my deep enthusiasm about this movie, like Celine et Julie and Gang of Four, an identity problem WITHOUT New Wave Cinema much explored documentary attitude or flashy statements à la Godard. You need to make the picture on your own.
Really nice mainstream movie with lovely characters. Didn't like the moral end. It cuts the edge of the movie. Killer song on generic by Duffy !
Reminded me of that Bergman quote in Passion of Anna, "I accepted the humiliation..." Stay away from this kind of woman, only bad experiences can happen. I try to get away after the first mean sentence if I spot one.
The end really gives credit to people full of dreams and fantasies in their heads. It's a refreshing feel compare to most Godard films where dated politics leave you feeling guilty instead of alive and creative. I love how it's the down-the-earth person who is fooled. Narrow minds love real life, this illusion. Dreamers see the whole picture and avoid the illusion.
Ce film qui m'avait laissé perplexe il y a sept ans, mais maintenant me jette à terre par son extraordinaire originalité ! Yes, Lynch adores Opening Night by Cassavetes and Celine et Julie by Rivette, I am sure ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhDoOEvAFJw
I am a fan, but I much prefered this movie to ANYTHING I have seen from Rivette, except perhaps Celine et Julie vont en bateau. But, I haven't seen a lot from him since his movies are badly distributed and not praised much. Va Savoir is mainstream and cute boredom compare to what he does in Gang of Four with his camera from the off stage in life to the on stage.. in LIFE !
No reason for that ! The man was there before the flashy Godard and his stupid anti-theater statement. There's life in everything, you just need to do it right and Rivette did the theater more than greatly !
Mike Leigh deserves many award just for the diversity of his movies ! Never the same one twice ! Here is a rather light one after a really dark one.
"Resisting, this way madness lasts !!"
George Clooney urban cool is about as annoying and self-fish as possible. I tried to love him once again, but failed...The movie was hard to watch only once too. So much time is wasted on showing how urban people are communicating today (annoying blackberry and related tech..), instead of showing people losing their job.
