Nice film, but ultimately predictable, forgettable and highly overrated. If for one thing, it shows how Academy members are elderly and yearning for the glory of times past.
Pitch perfect performances, sublime cinematography and a surprisingly strong and intimate theme makes this one of the most thought-provoking films I've seen this year. When most directors would have chosen to tread the sci-fi path with the plot, Cahill wisely chooses the intimate story -ridden with almost every personal demon imaginable- to a stunning effect.
Superb documentary about a man who truly was larger than life. The photo animation is something different and might not cater to everyone, but it is a bold decision and I consider it far more welcome than the traditional approach. About Bill Hicks, well, he truly is a comic genius and this documentary offers amazing insight on what makes him tick, as well as several good laughs.
The most beautiful and interesting mainstream animation film of 2010 and my favorite after The Incredibles. Great message and lovable characters. And I just love the many bold choices it takes that would never show up on a Disney animated feature.
Maybe not the best timing for its release, but and exquisite remake nonetheless. Adds even more layers to these already complex characters.
Very strong and evocative film. Portman's performace fully explores the mechanics of obsession and the frailty of the mind.
A crazy film with astounding female performances. Very nice.
Sad and revealing
Absolutely brilliant and thought-provoking.
A tour-de-force of experimental cinema.
Perfect food for thought and quite honestly, disturbing at times.
Exquisite treatment of one of the most controversial (and morally ambiguous) characters of our time. The whole cast is excellent imho, but it is Jesse Eisenberg who truly makes the film shine. His performance is an eye-opener.
Simply genius. An extraordinarily crafted piece of melancholy and joy. This is also a tremendous and potent testimony that shows us how Satoshi Kon saw love and its always-present, yet unmeasurable power.
Nice animated film. Being a huge fan of the series I have to say I had my doubts when I heard these 4 films would deviate from the original plot, but having seen this one, I have to admit I'm sold. However, as accessible as they have tried to make it, I still believe only those who have watched the original series will fully enjoy this spectacular re-imagining of a classic.
A touching tale of love, habits and the bomb. Of cruelty and tenderness alike. Naive, hopeful and raw. Among the best war tales I've seen.
Among the best films of the year so far, and no doubt the most imaginative of the bunch. Trips like these are the reason why I cherish the silver screen. And who wouldn't love such a natural high as this one?
Burrows performance is a joy to watch, although each member of the cast manages to shine with their own light. And even though the plot as a whole can feel somewhat simplistic at times, the nice blend of acting and silent moments carry you along quite delightfully.
Que sorpresiva y refrescante entrega por parte de Matthew Vaughn. Tensa a más no poder, hilarante por momentos, y sin descanso. Incluso nos regala alguno que otro guiño a Tarantino.
An exquisite and captivating video. So full of peace, playfulness and innocence. I owe this one to you も’. ありがおとう!
What can I say, this is the film that every kid in the world should be introduced to animation with. Nowadays all I see when I see a bus is a "cat bus" and I already ordered my very own Totoro plush toy a while ago.
Poetic, ironic, painfully beautiful. An ode to all broken hearts. Like hell and paradise both blended in a dreamlike vision. Kitano's best and my latest addiction. ありがとうございまず も’.
Bold and surprisingly real. Maybe the best movie of the genre I've seen in the past few years.
A glorious, tender and uncharacteristic take at an overused genre. While truly chilling at times, the true charm of this little gem comes from the unexpectedly strong bond between it's main characters. A strong, authentic film about cruelty, mystery, love and inadequacy, but most of all, about purity of heart. It will chill your spine and warm your heart at the same time.
If it hadn't such sweet, honest and bold sex scenes, and for a couple of fantastic tunes by Misora Hibari, I would definitely have given it a star less. As for the rest of the movie, Japan in general and Tokyo in particular have proven to be just too big and too much for Coitex's skill.
I just revisited this Lynch's classic and still feels as disturbingly fresh as the first time. This is the quintessential Lynch film.
A waste of a truly horrifying plot.
A great concept but a barely acceptable execution. Just hope it was made more with us, the spectators, and not with the idea of selling toys in mind.
Filled with plenty of disturbing images and a foreboding atmosphere, but failing to consistently scare none the less. Or maybe it's just me and my as-of-late way too narrow expectations of what true horror means.
One of my favorite sci-fi films of all time, and a must for any serious sci-fi or fantasy film fan.
This might not be the holy grail of sci-fi, but it is indeed the most refreshing science fiction film I have seen in the past years.
