My favourite Cronenberg as well. I saw it on TV when I was 14 or 15 and I remember feeling drained when the film finished (the floodgates just opened). Like Marissa states above, it is absolutely heartbreaking. Cronenberg’s “Dead Zone” also has a very sad and poignant quality to it.
Wow, all the great European auteurs are in this year. Also excited about the new films by such promising talents like Andrea “Red Road” Arnold and Jacques Audiard, who made the awesome “The Beat that my Heart Skipped”.
“Lady in the Water” still remains one of the worst films ever produced by a big studio. “Unbreakable” on the other hand is quite simply, brilliant. A beautifully paced film. Shyamalan has got film-making in his DNA, he just needs to find a decent screenplay that he hasn’t written himself (unless it’s a sequel to “Unbreakable” of course).
Andrew Kotwicki – couldn’t agree with you more. “Ben Button” is technically impressive but it’s all over the place, story-telling wise it’s the sloppiest of Fincher’s films.
Witkacy – I love “The Mist”. Darabont is a very efficient storyteller, maybe not the most visually interesting of directors but he sure knows how to string a story together and that goes a looong way.

Michael Jeck’s commentary for “Seven Samurai” is without a doubt the best commentary I’ve heard.

How could such a lousy director make such a great (or at least bearable) movie? about 3 years ago
I’d say “American Grafitti” is Lucas’s masterpiece.
BTW – Rob Reiner’s best is “Spinal Tap”. “When Harry met Sally”? Really?
