Coincidence! Actually I just bought that film for a UK-based friend (who I'm trying to lure back to Paris), for her birthday. I've not seen it myself but I hope it's good. I believe it was among Rivette's earliest. Let me know how you get on (and if it presents a sufficiently attractive view of living in Paris!) I'm starting my Paris cinema season with An American in Paris and Les Enfants du Paradis...
Excellent double bill of I've Loved You So Long and Edge Of Heaven. I finally caught up with them on DVD after missing them in the cinema. Edge Of Heaven is sometimes a little heavy- handed where I've Loved You So Long is sinewy and subtle, but I'm glad Akin took his foot off the pedal after Head-On and allowed his characters some time to breathe and develop.
Watched Une Femme Est Une Femme. It's like a musical without songs. Constant musical foreplay that's abruptly halted before anything can be consummated. And 90 per cent of modern advertising techniques seem to have sprung from this film. Brilliant.
