Kinda disappointed with breathless about 3 years ago

I saw this film a few years ago with no expectations. I knew of it but had never paid any attention to any talk or hype. Seeing it at the cinema improved the experience for me. I loved the film. Seeing the parts that have been used and downright lifted was kinda cute.

This became after the first watch, and still is, my favourite film. I have never had an interest in the Nouvelle Vague and haven’t seen much of it. To me this film stands on it’s own. I’m not a big enough student of cinema to care about it’s impact, I just enjoy it.

It seems that among cinephiles it’s very unfashionable at the moment. Maybe it’s popularity will rise again in the future or maybe it’s always been overrated.

Books about 3 years ago

I’ve just finished Let the Right One In and I can’t wait to see what they do with the film.

Now reading the second in the Matthew Shardlake series by C.J. Sansom – Dark Fire. These books are excellent. Set in London during the second half of Henry VIII’s reign. Some of the best scene setting I’ve found in a novel. I recommend them to anyone who enjoys crime and/or historical fiction.

I listen to: The Devil and Miss Mindy – Two friends having a lighthearted discussion of a single film each week.
Movies You Should See – A very lighthearted group of friends discussing a single film each week.
Left Field Cinema – A more serious look at films.
Mark Kermode’s film reviews for 5 Live – A review of the week’s UK releases.
The Film Programme from Radio 4 – Interviews about current and past releases.
Horroretc – Mainly horror based but with the odd genre piece thrown in.
Filimically Perfect – reviews a film each week that the hosts consider adheres to their ‘perfect film’ criteria.

Finished now but worth a listen, Watching the Directors – Each show is a review of a certain director’s work.

Work harder to make this forums better about 3 years ago

I’m new here so I hope I’m not speaking out of turn.

I do think a rules & reg’s thread that’s ‘sticky’ would help new members. I looked for one when I joined but can’t find one. It could be a description of what the forum is here for and why it is/is not the place for you. The forum is very different to navigate than others I am a member of. This makes it rather daunting for me.

It’s always a good idea for people to have a read around before they post. Just to get a feel for a forum. See if it’s the right place for them. I am not fond of people who haven’t quite got the feel of a forum starting threads, especially unnecessary ones. However I do feel that an explanation with a kind word goes a long way in most cases. Forums need new blood to thrive. If new people are made to feel unwelcome that won’t happen. Discussions to me are most interesting when there are many varied viewpoints rather than just a few regulars. However I fully realise that it has to be a decent point and not just a cry for attention with empty comments that just dilute the discussion.

I've never regretted watching a film. Agreed? about 3 years ago

If I could get my time back from watching The Happening I would take it. I don’t know what posessed me to see that film but it’s the worst thing I’ve seen in a cinema.

Now Doomsday, I really enjoyed, for what it is. I love Neil Marshall’s work. I just know I’m going to have fun watching his output. I don’t mind empty, fun fare. It’s self-importance that irritates me.

New to The Auteurs? You Belong Here about 3 years ago

Hello from Manchester, UK. I have just joined this week, thanks to a recommendation from the guy above me.

I’m way out of my league here. Hoping to pick up ideas for films that don’t normally cross my path.
