I rewatched this recently and I've gotta say that if you don't take it seriously it's ridiculously entertaining.
If you're in the right mindframe this is one of THE funniest movies I've ever seen.
Can't wait to see the backlash this gets from people on this particular site because it is a big fucking movie. Indie-lovers who are going to skip this and bash it because it cost $240 million or because it's James Cameron or because it's a big space epic. When I saw all the positive reviews it was like, "we won".

Not as good as Brick, but just a really enjoyable movie. Great performances, solid script, interesting directing, I'd love to see Rian Johnson do another comedy.
A classic high school/coming of age movie, it has such a unique spirit to it. Also any movie that you can say has a great matthew mccoughnahey performance deserves some credit.
Nicolas Cage is a great actor who picks shitty movies, but that still doesn't make him any less great of an actor.
I remember I sat there for the first half hour wondering how John Hurt got an oscar nomination, like 'what acting is there, it's just a bunch of make-up?" And then he spoke for the first time, and that sense of hope and anguish and perseverance, and just indescribable pain, was unlike almost any other feeling I've felt from another role.
One of the best written films of all time. Guy Pearce's performance is incomparable to anyone else.
One of the best crime movies I've ever seen, not sure if you could call it a comedy, but some of the movie's comedic timing was brilliant. Definitely one of Al Pacino's best roles.
The fact that the Auteurs lacks a page for Following disappoints me to no end.
The best sci-fi movie of all time.
This is the type of movie that just needs to be experienced: You can't know too much about it, you DEFINITELY can't know the twist, you just have to sit there for 100 minutes and enjoy the ride because it is one of the most incredible crime films ever made.
A truly incredible movie, but one that definitely deserves multiple viewings, it can be a bit slow, but the pacing works well. Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck were amazing.
While it's not as good as Punch-Drunk Love, Adam Sandler's performance was brilliant, and the supporting cast were all incredible, even though Seth Rogen isn't quite ready for the transition to dramatic movies. It's a shame the movie's going to be completely overlooked come Award season.
District 9 for me is one of, if not THE best film of the decade. One of the most emotionally wrenching movies I've ever seen. Incredible acting, brilliant directing and for a nothing budget, mind-blowing effects.
