In the 62nd Cannes Film Festival of this year, two chilean films were presented in competition: Huacho and Navidad.
In 2008, two other chilean films earned some recognition in various film festivals around the world: those two films were Tony Manero and La Nana.
As a chilean, I have already watched these films, so I have my own opinion about them and in chilean cinema in general, but I would like to know what people from other countries think about them and, as the topic suggests, what’s their favorite film.
It’s a pity that nobody else has answered this topic, Kenji. Anyway, thanks for sharing your opinion. I haven’t watched La Frontera yet, so it’s no much what can I say about it. Have you seen some of the films I named in my last post?
@ Mike Spence: Most of Jodorowsky’s films were produced in Mexico, if not all of them.
@ German Parra: Well, It seems you are Chilean, as well. I haven’t seen En la Cama. but some people have told me that it is a great movie. About Wood’s movies, definetly they are, at least, interesting to watch and Andrés Wood has proven to be one of the best contemporary chilean directors.
Have you guys watched ’’Solos’’?
It was filmed in just 9 days and entirely in English, although I don’t expect much of it.
Here in Chile, for all of you who live in Santiago or are passing by, in the Cineteca Nacional you can watch any of the films we have just mentioned or even older ones. For more information, just enter in www.cinetecanacional.cl
@Agustina: Why would we dance Tango in Puerto Montt? Anyway, I agree with you in your suggestion to Rick Hunter; if you are looking for a chilean film about high schoolers and college age kids, Promedio Rojo might be the right choice.

Machuca was filmed by Andrés Wood. Have you seen any other film of him? La Buena Vida is not a bad one at all.

Your favorite title sequence almost 3 years ago
I have always liked the very sober Woody Allen’s title sequence. Dont ask my why, though.

Why is this film considered as another step in the hitchcockian vision of guilt and sexual repression?

If Mizoguchi is even better than Kurosawa, then I can’t wait to watch one of his movies!
