Slumdog Millionaire Overrated Film of the Year about 3 years ago

Slumdog is a film about the importance of love and living through hardships so naturally, like Little Miss Sunshine, its able to connect with so many people. But through its origionality and enigmatic storytelling it allows us to submerge under its surface, revealing a beautiful marriage of love and destiny.

And WILDFIRE, must every film be studied and compared to citizen kane? When it comes down to my final hours of life I’d much rather watch a film like Slumdog or Life is Beautiful than your beloved Vertigo’s and Dr. Strangelove’s.

Slumdog Millionaire Overrated Film of the Year about 3 years ago

Wildfire – Your right about the “aging” of films. For example: The Karate Kid hasn’t aged well but it was conisdered really good when it came out. I honestly believe however, unlike Crash and even Chicago when it won in 2002 (LOTR and Gangs were both “better” films), that Slumdog Millionaire is deserving of the Oscar that it recieved. Im looking at it as more than just a film but the overall process of making the film. I respect Boyle for his determination and vision as well whoever was responsible for monitering the cultural differences and keeping the film alive. I also have to admit that I am an admirer of Danny Boyle and his previous films so I was really surprised and quite amazed that he was able to adapt his style to fit the film.

Anyway I can see that you have a concrete image of the academy and how they make their decisions and I agree with most of what you said. All i can say is that Slumdog wins my respect for overcoming the hype of The DarK Knight and making a name for itself.

O and I actually enjoyed Babel as well hah. Better than Crash in my opinion.

IS "BENJAMIN BUTTON" WORTHY OF BEING IN THE COLLECTION? about 3 years ago

Yes it does. Just watch the making of and you will understand what they went through in order to make Benjamin “come to life” it is incredible what they have done in terms of visual achievement and directing and definately worthy of the CC.

Masterpieces By Mediocre Directors about 3 years ago

This is hard for me because I find myself conflicted by the term “mediocre”. I am a more sympathetic when it comes to directors and their talent for directing than the average "Auteurs film hater (oops) ". For instance I wouldn’t define M. Night Shyamalan a “mediocre” director at all. He makes films that I enjoy watching (Signs, Unbreakable, and yes…The Village, are all enjoyable films yet I dont think any of them are masterpieces) The Sixth Sense however is a masterful film when it comes to that specific genre. I will never understand why these unofficial hate groups congregate as though they are out for revenge and people such as Shyamalan and Tarantino must be terminated in the name of retribution. That said…Here is my list :)

JOHN G. AVILDSEN – Rocky

SAM MENDES – Road to Perdition

WILLIAM FRIEDKIN – The Exorcist

QUENTIN'S NEW FILM about 3 years ago

Heres a thought : Why is it that Kill Bill receives so much negative backlash from the human race? It is, and always has been, a dramatically visualized spoof on the kung-fu/anime film industry. I hope you can realize that it is “obviously” a pure Tarantino (and I use the word “Tarantino” meaning – a film derived from the passionate “being” of Quentin Tarantino and his love for movies) adventure. And I’m going to go out on a limb and say that it is the most enjoyable film of his short library of enjoyable films.

5 Favorite Film Entrances - Can anyone beat Arnie's debut in The Terminator? about 3 years ago

It has just occured to me that this could be a very interesting thread. Just name a 5 movie characters that made the biggest impact on you when they entered the screen for the first time. And no Arnie is not my #1 choice. I just thought that it sounded like a good subtitle for my Topic.

5 – John Doe – Seven

4 – The Crazy 88 lead by O-Ren Ishii – Kill Bill (I watched this scene about 20 times the day i bought the DVD. It is pure genius)

3 – Hannibal Lecter – The Silence of the Lambs

2 – T Rex – Jurassic Park

1 – The Joker – The Dark Knight (After months hype and extensive buildup the first time we see Heath Ledger in full make-up, especially on the IMAX screen, is an experience of awe and ambitious fascination that very few actors can manifest)

Post Your Dreams! about 3 years ago

I am running down a long narrow road edged with tall dark trees. The sky is black. I turn around and see a shadowed figure pushing a baby carriage. I stop and soon enough the carriage stops in front of me. Inside is a mutant child with the head of a bat. I then look up at the figure behind the carriage and before its face is revealed…i am awake

I dont think that The French Connection is a masterpiece by any means. Its a great film but in terms of the Crim/Gangster genre there are plenty better ones out there: Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver, and The Departed.

>>Michael Mann- Manhunter<<

sigh

Collateral, Heat and The Insider and The Last of the Mohicans were all incredible…even Ali was good enough to rule out Michael Mann from this list.

And HARRY LONG, I actually would go as far as to say that both Signs and Unbreakable were great films. Yes the Village was mediocre, Lady in the Water sucked and only about 30% of The Happening is actually worth watching but his first three films were definately awsome!

Samantha your right hah i forgot about Alien Resurrection and i havent seen it yet, and yes there are 4 Indiana jones films but i still consider the first three to be a “trilogy” for nostalgic reasons.

@TROY – im not folllowing you…are you saying that LOTR, a film that already comes close to the three hour mark, should have been lengthened with a few more seconds of unnecessary frames of orcs being stabbed…? Thats a great idea! and while were at it why dont we add a few more shots of Benjamin Button washing himself in the bathtub, and some more shots of him having sex with that prostitute!!!
