What a beautiful film this is! The scene on the football field is heartbreaking.
Fresh and original, this has to be the coolest superhero movie ever! As much fun as you'll likely to have in cinemas this year! I predict a major hit and the beginning of a franchise...
Does this even count as a movie? Because it seems as real as life itself and not staged at all. However, only people in similar situations like the characters in the film will respond to it, for the rest it may just be a boring film about 'nothing'...
Certainly an incredible artistic and technical achievement but for people like me - who are just not interested in (Russian) history - there is nothing else that's gripping in this film...
Hotel is a unique, atmospheric film. A psychological horror film where nothing much happens and with no resolution but intriguing nonetheless. Brilliant camerawork by Martin Gschlacht.
The first ten minutes are brilliant and incredibly touching - then it becomes conventional Disney fare - but on a high level nonetheless. The music by Michael Giacchino is nice too.
One of the most undeserving best picture winners ever - how could this film lose against 'Brokeback Mountain'? The worst are the slow-motion sequences enhanced by 'dramatic' music - proof that the images alone are not moving enough. The characters are full of stereotypes and the award-winning screenplay feels overly constructed and is as realistic as a snowstorm over L.A.
One of the very best films from the brilliant Billy Wilder who finds the perfect balance between comedy and drama here. To call it just another classic would be an insult since it is so much more, for instance an accurate portrait of 60s corporate America. Not to be missed under any circumstances!
One of the films that defined the shallow and materiallistic generation which I am part of. It is elegantly shot, features a perfect cast and a great soundtrack and it is also quite faithful to the source material. A true guilty pleasure!
Where can I see this? Is it available somewhere?
In his latest effort, Ulrich Seidl goes far beyond pure provocation. It is still not an easy film to like but not one to leave you cold either: the characters are just too real and uncomfortably close to you. A disturbing but honest film that provokes strong reactions and crosses the line between fiction and documentary.
Not a perfect film but an interesting discovery that brilliantly captures teenage alienation. Some scenes are just brilliant but sometimes a little trimming wouldn't have hurt.
With a better, more focused script, Tornatore's family epic could have been a masterpiece but after a good start, the film looses steam - especially in the third act. However, there are some good moments and Morricone's score is magnificient.
After all I've read and heard about the film, I expected a lot - and was nevertheless surprised by how brilliant it is. Despite the horror elements, it is essentially about loneliness and frienship. A tender, atmospheric tale that is - like all extraordinary films - absolutely unique.
Forget Tarantino, Scorsese, Mann and (his biggest fan) John Woo: it doesn't get any cooler than this. A moody triumph of style with Alain Delon in the role that defined his career.
The haunting debut of a master filmmaker: highly inventive but at the same classical. The cinematography of Henri Decae is striking but the sparingly used sound is very efficient too.
The film works because of its strong story and characters - not necessarily because of the Dogme rules. In fact, wouldn't it have been an even better film with proper lighting and without those shaky camera movements?
The sentimental story of Frank Capra's Christmas classic should touch even the most cynical cinephile. What a lot of people seem to be missing is how flawless this film is in every other aspect as well.
An elegant modern adaptation of a classic novel featuring two truly beautiful lead actors. Not your average coming-of-age film, more the kind of film only the French can do...
Everything in this mysterious film is of subtle beauty: the photography, the music and above everything else the wonderful Irène Jacob.
A brilliant reconstruction of the Montreal massacre. It is uncomfortable to watch but at the same time very touching and beautifully shot. One of the best films of 2009.
2012 depressed me even though it is so ridiculous. How sick must a society be if it produces meaningless spectacles like this one and if audiences worldwide seem to need it to escape reality.
Somewhere between a masterpiece and a failure, Antichrist is nevertheless - despite its flaws - a superbly shot cinematic tour-de-force, with a brave performance by Charlotte Gainsbourg.
An elegant, understated film about a taboo subject. Louis Malle brilliantly captures the resignation of the character who is dead long before he points the gun to his head.
One of the most touching films I've seen lately. Rarely has a film about heroin abuse and death been as beautiful. Hopkins is a talented filmmaker with a keen eye for the world around him.
The buzz around this movie is incomprehensible to me. It is more ridiculous than truly funny, has no atmosphere or real tension and silly CGI effects instead. Better re-watch 'Evil Dead'!
A marvellous, beautifully told family epic that is captivating despite its length. The rare example of a film that feels like you actually lived with the characters.
A marvellous, beautifully told family epic that is captivating despite its length. The rare example of a fiilm that feels like you actually lived with the characters.
An accomplished, mature work by a great European auteur. Subtle and slow yet incredbly engaging and beautifully shot, this film against Zeitgeist shows that less is more when it comes to good cinema.
A brilliant, frequently hilarious Hollywood satire - one of the best films about 'the business'. The opening sequence is great filmmaking.
