I thought that, for once, when I signed up for The Auteurs, that I should rate all the films I have seen over years according to the degree with which each one has left its mark on me, or to put it more astutely I guess I should say (no use beating around the bush)—by how much they have left me with that most elusive, wonderfully geniune feeling of satisfication after having finished them. Blindingly novel approach, huh? More often than not elsewhere on the net I tend to rate films according to what I think that that film deserves regardless if this “more objective” stance turns out to be in conflict with my emotions. Usually, a well-crafted film will recieve a postive rating even in the cases where it had left me unsatisfied, unengaged, or wholly disinterested. This place has become a corrective for that objectiveness, and it feels good.
